Hey I don't want to be the spelling police but for future reference it might interest you that the spelling is fait accompli. I guess you've only heard it said so went phonetic.

Mine waivered during the 3/4 qtr break on the weekend, but otherwise it has remained strong. The WCE game was always tipped to be a loss, and personally I thought we held up ok considering.

I'd rather we didn't lose to Adelaide and Melbourne, but we still have another 8 teams in the comp to play before we can really take stock of our position.

The next six weeks should be fascinating.
Port, WB, St Kilda (A), Carlton (A), Freo, Collingwood. Four home games, two away, with only St Kilda being a true "toughie".

In 2003, even 2004, I'd agree with you.
But 2005 form is very, very ordinary, remember 2 out of our 3 wins have been come-from-behind in the final quarter, when the opposition stopped dead in its tracks.
Things do appear to be slowly turning around, but we have a long way to go to get back to 2003/04 form.

So out of that lot, I'd call the tougies:
Port, WB, StKilda, Carlton and Freo. Pies the only gimme.

Interesting to note that Brisbane were 1-3 and then 4-5 at the start of 2001 so big turnarounds can happen. Two main differences were that they only lost one at home in those games (to the Crows) and that they are better than us

I think that the way the competion is shaping, those home losses will hurt us a lot. There are actually about 12 pretty good teams this year so winning home games is all important. I think we'll make the finals but one more home loss will probably kill us.

Still cautiously optimistic of having a decent season though and if we do, it could turn out to be a very good season with three debuts already and possibly a couple more to come.

Brisbane were okay in 2000 and started much the same way in 2001 until they got going.

Some of the differences between their 2001 and 2001 side included Michael, Brown, Keating, Pike, plus the improvement of classy younger players like Black, Notting, Headland. (although they didn't havbe Power and Leppitsch for part of the time).

So they topped up and had the talent developing.

Unfortunately I'm not sure if we can replicate that...

...oops sorry, forgot - yep, if they can do it, we can do it even better. We will be an even more powerful team than the Lions and we will win 4 or 5 flags in a row because we have so many talented youngsters and our older players are so talented. We have a t'rrific bunch and we will go far...

If we all have to be super positive all the time I think that that should extend to comments directed at fellow RWOers. C'mon barry, get with the positive vibe...

The problem with extrapolating from our position on the ladder is that teams above us are currently in form while those below us are out of form.

I think it's important to be positive and optimistic! Far too much negativity on these boards! How are the guys expected to win games without those good vibes.

In referring to the SWANS, please don't confuse 'gut feeling' with indigestion.

Yep, they were third in 1999 and sixth in 2000 - sound familiar

I agree but things are not definitely all doom and gloom - teams can turn things around. We won't win the flag but we can still have a season that provides lots of positives. At this point it's equally likely that the opposite will happen.

True. The cutting cynism and meaningless self-pity angles work so much better.
