Shocking, just shocking and not surprised in the least that it was Goldspank that lead the charge against us. Who here thinks that this was pay back for Amon's "weak Dog" 50 from last week???

      Because I certainly do.

It was the third quarter that did the damage for me. Not only did Goldspank not pay the deadset free for Hall for too high, from the resulting ball up, Port kicked it towards the members with Dew ending up with the ball, and after an age trying to figure out what to do was tackled with it and brought to ground, for what should of been holding the ball. Ball spills free to a Port player who handballs the ball back to Dew and he kicks a goal from 50m.

So in on passage of play the Swans not only were robbed of two clear cut frees, but Port got a goal thanks to them being ignored.

Next we have the Lade elbow to Schauble. Should of resulted in Schauble getting the free kick, but no the ump thinks he is acting and doesn't even talk to Lade. That error, will no doubt be played out during the week with Lade up on report for it. If not the review panel are weak dogs.

The OOTF's were shocking including the one right in front of the boundry ump.

But what ****ted me was the amount of time Buchanan was caught high, yet no free kicks paid, it was like our players don't have heads in the umpires eyes.

The Holding the ball ruling are ruining this game. What good is this rule when it hurts the player making an effort to attack the ball??? Mixed rulings for both sides but really this rule needs to be looked at before players just stop attacking the ball.

I think Monty is now paying the price for being a 'weak dog' so to speak.

Watching the game on TV, I was horrified by the standard of umpiring for both sides. Sydney got the worst of it, but not by much.

What was the actual free kick count at the end of the game?

The umpiring was horrific for us today. The one on Hall was unbelievable - almost at his feet and the Port player had the audacity to even leave his arm on Hall high - what happens sweet nothing.

But one they did get right was the B.Mathews weekly and compulsory kick out on the full. Why would anyone lead towards the boundary when Benjamin is delivering.

I have been following Aussie Rules for 30 odd years and todays umpiring was one of the worse displays I have ever seen. Even the boundary umpires were terrible. I cant recall sections of the crowd ever getting so angry with some umpiring decisions as they did today. At one point I thought the entire O'Reilly stand was going to storm the field! The umps should be utterly ashamed of themselves. Even my non Swans supporting father thought so. They should all be dropped to the 2's next week. DISGRACEFUL.

                RE:Umpires

yep, as an umpire in the GWFA league, and a couple of people sitting around me also umpires, it was absolutely terrible to watch the way the umpiring was going. Both teams copped it badly from the umpires. I suppose you don't need to be an umpire to see how bad it was, (just listen to the crowd their 'always right'). But, there's also ALOT of factors which contribute to decision making. I'm always told that, if a player has their back to you, and let's say thet throw it out of the scrimmage, fifty people on the sideline will see it, but if you don't, then you can't call it. Another thing is the degree of pressure the players are under, and also there's the spirit of the laws "the player who's sole objective is to gain possession of the football shall be given every opportunity to do so" so, alot of it comes down to the INTENTION of the player, and where their eyes are. Some things are mistakes yeah, but also think about all the other factors.

P.S. Did anyone else notice the Goldspink is fat and was constantly behind play?

Agree, the umpires are making some of the most stupid decisions. This game wasn't an exception. It looks to me AFL is loosing agrip over the game rules.

And the holding the ball rule is the worst rule in footy today. How many times do we see one guy actually go for the ball, and the opposition guy sits back waiting, knowing that he just has to lay a simple tackle and he gets a free. Where is the reward for making the ball your objective? Where is the reward for attacking the ball?
Yep Sharpie - the worst thing about football today - second to the ball and you get a soft free.

                      Stuffing the game up IMHO.

Yep, the umpires were absolutely shocking this week, but I don't think it was all as one one way as people are making out

Port were on the end of some awful decisions, especially in the first quarter, and it seems they were applying the same rules to Tredrea as they do to Hall (ie: don't pay him ANYTHING)

Both Tredrea and Hall should've had at least 3-5 free kicks which they just didn't get today

So, in summary, the umpiring was an absolute disgrace (both ways)

Hope Roos and Choco both send the Geisch a tape of Goldspink and his mates performances today because it was schizenhausen

There were 3 really obviously wrong calls against us about the time of the infamous OOBTF, where I thought the umpires are about to decide the game.

But otherwise the umpiring was good/even. I am a huge fan of the holding-the-ball rule. If you are on the ground and you scoop it in, you're gone. If you get balanced after taking the ball then tackled, gone. This is not running rugby, its footy. Kick the footy. Its opened up the game heaps.

I especially like the two times I saw wangerneen not get a free:. Once when he ducked into a tackle and was taken high - by his own making, and once when him and goodes were running for a loose ball, and he fell over trying to milk a trip/nudge.

I generally prefer it, although sometimes the interpretation is a bit strange. Our guys have to learn not to slide in or dive onto the ball.
