    Was Today Ugly?

The score would suggest it was. But was it actually just another ugly game by the swans?

Personally, I had an absolute ball at the game. Despite the low scoring, I thought the game was interesting enough, and I was too busy bagging the umpires to be disappointed about how boring the swans may have been playing. And if we'd scored 15.9 instead of 9.15, the score would not have been as reflective of an ugly win.

So, was I overlooking the ugliness, or was it genuinely a better game than what we've been experiencing for many of the other games this season so far?

The first half was ugly and boring. Dumb versus dumber versus dumbest (the umpires). The second half was much better and quite enjoyable. I love watching my team beat tyhe Port scum.

I agree it didn't appear to be an ugly game. Although i too spent alot of the time bagging the umpires - but i felt as though we were playing much better footy in general.
Except for maybe the last 10 minutes of the final quarter with all those stoppages, i thought we played a much more attractive game.

We actually ran with the ball.

I know the scoreline wasn't fantastic, and we didn't play brilliantly, but picking up the ball and running with it..... how exciting.

And Kennelly didn't play too badly. I was suitably impressed.

Last week we had 31 scoring shots at goal and 2 OOTF. This week we had 24 scoring shots and 1 OOTF. So we have had 11 more scoring shots then the other side last week and 9 more scoring shots then Port this week.
The problem is not playing ugly. The problem is goal kicking accuracy.

But I am trying to distinguish between goal kicking accuracy and ugly play. I'm sure they are different, maybe not mutually exclusive, but surely not the same thing.

So the question remains, was today ugly, or was it decent play but with bad goal kicking?

To me the first half was boring and not of AFL standard (whatever that means). Even Roos admited that wayward kicking at goal is still there. I wonder for how long?

Today was more boring than ugly.

Decent play with bad goal kicking IMHO.

First half was ok, 2nd half boring. The problem was the SCG and lack of space as anything.

As far as low scoring goes, if both sides had kicked straight it would have been a normal scoring game.

In the bulldogs game they had a set play where if someone marked at 50m, the designated long kicker would run next to them, accept a handball and take a shot. We need to get NOG into that role. How many times did we mark between 45 and 55m out, and have to make another pass, because we couldnt make the distance. ?

                          anyways. was it ugly?

well, lots of stoppages. but at least we were trying to run the ball. I actually felt that Port contributed to the stoppages today as much as we did, they were struggling with our run and slowed it down a bit - which is normally what we do.
so it wasnt ugly. was it champagne football? eerr no it wasnt.

I thought it was a pretty horrible game to watch, but not because of our game plan more because of our terrible skills. Still, we do crowd players around the ball - at one stage in the centre I counted 24 players around the ball. Means there are times when it will still get ugly.

I watched the Geelong game on Friday and some of the 'Dogs game. Jeez their teams are so much better to watch than our's.

Really? I felt the other way round: the first half was somewhat boring and certainly over in a flash, whereas the final half was awesome. Anyhoo... perhaps I was also too busy hurling [family-friendly] abuse at the stupid umpiring.

And I was also suitably impressed with Kennelly's effort today. A rather impressive improvement on his efforts all season. He looked like he wanted it this week, actually played with a bit of passion.
