Certainly not his greatest perfomance, but not too bad at all...

And when Tadhg plays well, I don't think we play as "ugly". I think he and Leo hold a good deal of responsibility when it comes to making the game "pretty". (Is that the opposite of ugly in this context???)

no, what makes a game pretty is Tadhg, Jude, and ROK. The word your looking for is "free-flowing".

This week and last week have been more of the man on man footy versus the earlier multi-stoppage mutli-handball, overly technical error riddled farces.

I enjoyed the game today because it had a lot of interesting one on one contests. If we had kicked straight, there would be no need to ask the question.

It was a win, we chanted and sang a fair bit, but I was by no means elated at the end of the day. To the eye it was a far uglier game than last week against Essendon.

Here's hoping next week isn't another arm wrestle. with the normally scrappy Dogs in town, and Rodney Eade back to thrill us with his defensive game plan, I shudder to think about what things could be like.

Oh well, a win is stil a win I guess. And beating the premiers is something you don't do every week.

On our side, we tried to play a fairly open man-on-man kind of game but skills didn't allow for us to really make it a sparkling showpiece of afl football. IMHO Port were the prime culprits at playing ugly boring football - the number of time they just played keepings off in their own defensive 50 while waiting for an uncontested option up the ground was just terrible. I reckon they might have caused us more trouble had they kicked more to contests and let some of their players actually show their full abilities.

                  I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

I wouldn't say the game was that ugly, but it certainly wasn't the most thrilling thing I've ever seen! I thought the desparation was impressive, but maybe that's just because Port showed virtually no resistance to our pressure! I also think Tadgh, Leo and Jude played really well.

I think we were lucky today in that Port were just plain hopeless! We got away with some terrible skill errors and shocking turnovers, simply because they didn't make us pay for them, and made a heap of their own errors along the way. We wont get away with it agianst more skilled opponents. Oh, and can we please start kicking straight?!

No doubt it was ugly, but that doesn't mean it wasn't interesting. Port was absolutely horrid today, we probably should have won by much more than 4 goals.

Did anyone else notice that even with 24 behinds, I don't think one kickin went long. They all seemed to be short chipped passes to the pocket. Pretty mundane stuff.

Port have always been a boring team to watch - now their skills seems to have deserted them, they are very boring!

Was good actually. $4 these days at the http://www.forresters.com.au/. We went with our Port friends from both Adelaide and Perth(and swans63 of course) and had a good social time, with the scoreline long forgotten by the end of the night. Even if we had to watch Port1978 to make sure she didn't try and hit people outside the ground.

Because I'm such good friends with Paralowie Power and Port1978, we all rocked up to Port's after match up at Paddington RSL. Talk about a different world! ALL the Port players were there up on stage. All HAD to attend as well out of respect to the club's members. None of this joke rostering that we get at our rather ...... err umm strange after-matches. All had heads bowed, as they felt that they had let their supporters down, which it has to be said they very much did. you'd have LOVED it Cruiser!

I loved it seeing things from a different perspective. The Port supporters instantly started to mouth off and scoul at us as we walked in. But warmed to us when we started talking about the game and their trips over etc etc. A real footy atmosphere, with people only there to see the players, talk to other supporters, and muse over what happened on the day. when we left, half the auditorium were still watching a replay of the grand final on the big screen?

Swans63 was shocked to see that the players did not ALL come to the after-matches in Sydney, as they indeed they seem to do in Melbourne. One of our gang (an expat Liverpool fan who comes to games in his Scouse shirt) said that he was surprised that things were not like they were at the Roosters where awards such as the best player, players' player etc etc were always given. It is arguable that that would be the best way to go. Maybe the kids wouldn't be happy, as they have no games and contests to take part in. But I think this think needs to be addressed. Especially considering that we now have our own clubhouse and a place for both players and supporters should be able to feel relaxed in.

Maybe we could get Swansrock4eva to come back and sing for us again too?.

We had one player come up (McVeigh) on stage to talk to Luffy. John Longmire came up as well. But when one of the hardest hitting questions at the after-match is whether a guinea pig is actually a marsupial or a mammal , you seriously have to ask yourself why the hell we even have the present day after-matches at all.

Still enough idle ranting. We won and I had a good day with friends.

                          JF

PS:- You been stalking me or something Cruiser? You must have been rather near us at the Essendon game too. Come say Hi; I don't bite, unless I'm hungry that is.

And how bout that mark from Leo?!?! Solid.

I liked the way they managed about a third of the time to capitalise on their hardwork sending the ball downfield, though it was the cringeful kicks straight down the throats of the Port players that really started to irk me.
