I really like Moore and Vogels, but it's too early to say they've done more with their opportunities.

In Moore's first 2 games he has managed 12 possessions and 1 goal. McVeigh managed 23 possessions and 1 goal in his first 2 outings.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Fair point. But yesterday two incidents epitomised the difference between Moore and McVeigh this early in their careers:

      1. Loose ball in the centre, Moore arrives slightly after Port player (K Cornes or Ebert?). Port has possession of the ball and Moore with strength drags it out of his hands. Quick disposal to MOL who then plays on and handpasses to McV who misses an easy running shot from 35m.

      2. Late in the last term, game to be won, loose ball down in our attacking half. McV picks it up, and gets tackled, no flung off the ball, loses possession. Doesn't even get a boot to ball.

I realise they are different player types, and we need both in the team and playing to their potential to succeed. But this "give McV more gametime" argument is starting to wear thin. He gets minimal time sure, but does little with it. Why reward that with even more time? Let him bulk up first, or learn to avoid bigger bodied players, before risking his inclusion.

Another big difference between the two - Moore is still in the "kid in a candy store phase of his career where there are few expectations of him, he's probably still pinching himself that he's in the senior team and he can really just go out and have fun.

Schneider and Bevan are two recent examples of how relatively easy your first year at AFL level can be (and there are plenty of examples from other clubs too).

It gets a bit harder after that as you expect a bit more from yourself and the coach maybe does too. Not saying that it completely explains why McVeigh is struggling to get involved at senior level but Moore hasn't done anything significantly different to things McVeigh did last year.

Strength is definitely an issue for McVeigh. However, I recall how exciting McVeigh looked in his early games with some really nice moves and possessions. Now he just seems to be trying too hard to make things happen and not make mistakes.

He has the body of an outside reciever, but the mind of an in-and-under.

Either he plays wider, or bulks up. This is where the coaching staff need to be proactive in his developing.

I agree entirely, he is disappointing at present and looks well off the pace. His disposal which looked good when he first came in seems to have deserted him enitrely. His lack of apparent strength is a worry.

He looked truly lost on Sunday.

Hey, the only person I was hitting was sWAns63....although I thought about punching you

ALL the Port players were there up on stage. All HAD to attend as well out of respect to the club's members.
Actually all the players were at the RSL, but most were eating dinner cos I think they had a plane to catch, so only 2 came out and spoke. But for the Port match in WA in round one, all the players came back for the after match function.

                  Good summary.

My belief is that Moore should be continued to be offered significant game time, and McV should be rotated in and out whilst he gets his bearings. This is still better than what Malceski, Schmidt, Willoughby, Ericksen or M Davis get, so he should be happy with what he has and enjoy the challenge.
