Mathews isnt as slow as he perceives to be... he looks it when he has a footy in his hands, but I watched him tagging on the weekend, he was on Francou for a lot of it and he never looked sluggish. As slow as he may seem mentally, he isnt that bad in leg speed. As for Cooney, yeah he has a bit of speed, thats why you check him closely or give a bitta room to read his run, i reckon Mathews would be the man for the job, but at the end of the day its only my opinion.

Last week they used fast break football and carried the ball time and time again through the centre and kicked accurately inside 50.

They don't have a tall marking forward but do seem to have the skills to find their small ones.

Our forwards need to get back to their old "accountable' ways or these guys will cut us up.

If Micky is as fit as he was last week, Bazza could be a real show.

I would like to see the bench Willo, Sadds, Buchanan & Moore if no Willo then McVeigh.

Yike, look at the Centre and Half lines plus the on-ballers. Who the hell is going to get the ball to a forward? Maybe Ablett and J. Bolton...

(Obviously) its going to be another low scorer. I am glad to see Roos doesn't want to "play to win" against the weak dogs.
Yeah I cant believe he dropped Judd, Luke Ball and Dal Santo for them! What was he thinking putting those guys in the middle, when we have so much quality running around in the reserves.

Oh, hilarious! I don't know how I can recover..

It has nothing to do with reserves. How about putting C. Bolton in the centre? Kennelly? Dempster? Even O'Keefe would be better. But no, Roos continues to play not to lose. A centre line and rovers that are all DEFENDERS. Rubbish!

Since when has the listed team sheet borne any relationship to the way the team lines up during the game?

Kirk, Bolton and Ablett - our three best fit midfielders - will predominantly play in the midfield or onball. If Willo returns, he'll spend a bit of time there as well. If they play, so will youngsters Moore and McVeigh. O'Keefe pushes back into the midfield anyway as part of the way the Swans structure. Kennelly will (hopefully) go for some forays into the middle.

Yes, Crouch (who's footspeed can be an attacking weapon when he's not on a tagging job) and Mathews will spend some time there but it's not as if Kirk and Bolton are going to spend the game in back pockets, is it?

Everyone spends time in the midfield... and in the forward line... and in the back line... it's like watching U12 footy!

Maybe it's a trick by Roos - he's making our centre line look very defensive - playing mind games with Eade who will think we are going to play a defensive game. But instead we will come out and attack!

You are right. There really is no point in having threads speculating on the team as it could be anything come game day.

I will ignore the Crouch = attacking weapon idea.

Kirk and Bolton are both defensive players and our most important ones at that. Its not rocket science in why we score so low every game. (Though, of course, it was when Eade coached us... get it, get it? Haw haw haw...)

If you think Kirk and Bolton are defensive players then I question whether you ever watch the Swans play.

Kirk can play a defensive role but he doesn't do it that much anymore. Last week he was pretty heavily tagged himself by Kane Cornes. Against the Bombers he picked up 31 possessions (as well as laying 8 tackles).

Bolton may not be in the elite class of midfielder and might like burrowing in packs but he almost never plays a defensive role and, indeed, largely plays wide of his man even when his opponent is getting lots of the ball and he should be tightening up.

Its called making do with the player list you have. You'd rather have those three in the backline?

Besides, you dont really need an attacking midfield at the SCG, as a rebounding defence an an active forward line do just as well. If they have a stronger midfield, and we have a better defence and attack, you can beat them by negating their strength and using yours.

Christ this hurt to read. Where's that sticky?

But I agree with Rob both on the bench four and our accountability (which I mentioned earlier).

I say why don't we experiment a little? Play Kennelly out wide. Bring CBolton up to HF. He's supposedly the best kick in the club. And from what I hear of his Brissie days, he was quite the versatile player.

Turn our defensive team into an attacking one. That'll really shake it up for Eade and the boys.

Hmm. Actually I do not think I do. I sit there and watch Bolton and Kirk allow their men first touch of the ball so they can quickly tackle them and force another ball up which lulls me into some kind hypnotic state. Then the little voice says... "Go buy another beer"
