    Team v dogs

We may face a selection problem with the dogs.

I guess we can expect Jason Ball to be avaliable, but the dogs are a small side, and we may have an abundance of talls.

    I'd say:
    In: Ball
    Out: Vogels (unlucky)

Put ball at FF, Mickey in the pocket, and bomb it long.

Will Ball be match-fit? How about one week in the reserves for Ball? He has been out for a while now and given the sign Vogels is showing, there is no need to rush him back.

Will McVeigh hold his spot? I think that was about the worst I have seen him play yesterday. I'd like to see him given 4-5 weeks to show what he can do but it would not shock me to see him go for Schneids.

Schneids did star in the ressies but it was a 12 goal flogging.

Poor Macca, if he'd kicked that one on the run, then we wouldn't writing this at all.

Doesn't help that his lasting image was that appalling handball to nobody in the dying minutes. Was like a precis of all that has been awful about the Swans this year (except he wasnt havinga set shot for goals).

            In: Ball Schneider
            Out Vogels, McVeigh again.

I reckon McV is trying to hard to impress when he gets his opportunity, and screws up. Nearly everything he touched on Sun. turned to dirt.

              My changes would be:

              In: Ball (if fit), Nicks
              Out: McVeigh, Bevan

McVeigh is really struggling at this level, gets bumped off the ball too easily and has no finishing skills.

I thought Bevan had a pretty good game yesterday. So, if Ball comes in, Vogels will go because we can't have too many talls in the team. And McVeigh would probably be the one to make way if they decide to reward Schneider.

That is reason enough for him to be given a month with decent gametime to prove himself this go around. He probably feels he has to try too hard to impress because Roos will send him to Canberra next week if he doesn't.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

tough selection with mcveigh as we need all the pace we can get against the doggies. they are bloody quick!!!

i reckon ball will come through the ressies as minson is the only ruckmen for them at the moment. goodes and jolly should be alright.

players to watch out for in my mind are robert murphy and gilbee. both are not afraid to carry the ball and have deadly long kicks. and then theres the smiling assassin brad johnson who could pop up and kick a bag ala vardy or sziller (damn him)

the doggies are hot at the moment so we have to be switched on and i reckon they might start favourites too

Agree we need the pace to match the doggies pace, that's why i think we should keep McVeigh in.

I don't think any changes are really neccessary. Vogels to stay in because we need to stretch their undersized defence.

Ball for a game in the reserves.

Agree, Tell him he has got 4 weeks, definitely, and see how he goes.

I don't think Ball will come thru the 2's. I reckon if he is fit enough he will come str8 in, this week or next.

                          Agree.

There is no point in promoting the reserves BOG one week and then dropping them the next when they fail to deliver the same at senior level, only to replace them with someone else who will repeat the pattern.

Schneider was good yesterday - he wasn't outstanding.

If it were Williams due to come back in I'd have no problem dropping McVeigh back down but no point doing it for Schneider. Give him a month and if he's still struggling and there's still a spot left for one of the fringe youngsters, give Schneider or Malceski a go.

I heard Leigh Matthews say that he gives the novices two games to prove themselves. If they do well they get two more games, if not it's back to the reserves, and another kid gets a chance instead.

That was pretty much how Eade handled it, and I'd be surprised if Roos didn't have a similar rule of thumb . . . although of course McVeigh and Schneider are hardly in the 'novice' bracket anymore.

Perhaps some decent game time would help...
