Magic may be fit by Rd 14

    Article

I watch Luke Ablett at training and he has such a long and penetrating kick. I wonder gee how is he kicking it that far and I am really struggling to kick it 45m and he is doing it on his left-foot and everything so it is pretty frustrating," O'Loughlin joked.

So we have it in print now, the reason why he lays off to passing midfielders in traffic - from within 50m.

I wonder how his fitness wil hurt us this weekend, we've "dropped" LRT and schauble as we need smaller faster backs. What about MOL, clearly he wont be able to help stop their run out of the F50. hmm

If he marks it and kicks goals or sets up others to do so, there won't be any run out of the F50 to stop.

Why the quotes? Dropped is dropped.

well if they were both dropped on form, then i wouldnt use the quotes. i see the term "dropped" as derogatory way to describe being left out of the team, its a punishment. im not a great LRT supporter, but he did better last weekend. and schauble has done no wrong in my eyes. so im trying to give them a bit of dignity.
quotation marks highlight that they arent being dropped on form, more just based on match-ups.

And Liz, err? im not sure what to say, maybe u werent paying attention to our last few scorelines, its up around the 14 behinds or so a game. Unless we suddenly decide to start hitting targets, taking contested marks, and kicking straight, we will need fit players to help stop their run out of defensive 50. I dont think MOL is capable of this.

Mick's performance last week renders any debate over his fitness somewhat academic...
          We hate Anthony Rocca
          We hate Shannon Grant too
          We hate scumbag Gaspar
          But Leo WE LOVE YOU!

So you're suggesting we should pick a team on the assumption we're going to be rubbish?

That is true as I felt we caught glimpses in the first two quarters last week of how he used to play- with skill, flair and some pizzazz. Though if you're selected in a side, you do need to keep up the intensity for all four quarters. You have an obligation to your teammates, club and fans to be 100%. There are plenty of others vying for a spot.

That said, I'm not returning from multiple injuries...

I am suggesting we select a team that is fully fit. Especially when playing a small running side.

Do you suggest we select a side based on the idea that the ball will never spill and be contested at ground level? Then why have crumbers at all? or small forwards? seeing as you seem to believe that our forwards will always take the mark and always either kick a goal or hit a target in the F50....

Liz i think your comments are fueled by a frustration with many RWO members constantly bagging players. I am not doing this, i am quesitoning his fitness and whether it will have an impact in a game which will be very physically trying. If you find this thread annoying then you dont have to comment. But suggesting that no mark will be dropped and no shot at goal missed, and accusing me of assuming we will play like rubbish is incorrect and naive.

                  Guzz,

Take your point on fitness but sometimes quality players take time to get back to their best. I have been watching Brisbane/Tigers first half and Simon Black is only now starting to find touch after a few games back.

In Micky's case he hardly had a pre season so it was always going to be game time that got him fit. Also he may have a clause in his contract that says he doesn't play 2's. Contracts have all sorts of little provisos these days.

                    In this case, not really.

Just can't quite see why you would leave one of our few genuine matchwinners out of the team - and yes, he's still a matchwinner even with his existing phyiscal limitations.

Stopping the run is all about accountability and although people question Mick's fitness, he still earns himself 4 or 5 frees a year from his defensive pressure in our F50, ie mowing a quick young defender down from behind.

The accountability of ROK, Monty, Baz etc is also very good. This is a big game for us and if we can capiatalise on the past 2 wins, I think our confidence will be back to 2003 levels.

Yeah... but we were sticking up for him before the match as well!

I wish that Mick could have just one year at full fitness. He'd kick 70, I reckon.
