The thing I found funny was the melbourne match a few weeks back I had to watch on tv, but had the sound off and the radio on so I could get the live scores & commentary. My brain kept telling me I was listening to commentary for the game I was watching, but it just didnt make sense.

For some reason, about this time every year Sydney looses interest in sport.
You notice it more in the NRL where they are racking up a few sub-10000 crowds now unlike a month ago.
The Waratahs couldnt sell out their home final, and a relatively poor crowd for the AFL game.

I always suspected this drop off was due to SOO, but dont see how it effects the other codes.

I think the tahs inability to sell out their semi had more to do with tickets only going on sale on wednesday for the general public. Also, for the members of the SFS, they normally know of the games months in advance so can plan accordingly, but for the semi they only knew 1 week in advance, so it is likely that many had already planned other activities.

My only verdict on the drumming is to pay some attention to the location of the effects mikes for the television coverage and position yourself accordingly for best effect. You don't want to be too close to the mikes, otherwise all we hear on TV is the drum; on the other hand if you're too far away the effects mikes won't pick it up.

My first live game for a while so I was surprised at how few people & how little atmosphere there was. Can't remember when I've been able to just stroll up 2 beer bar & get served straight away - actually it was kinda nice.

I was in the Concourse with the plebs - many Doggies fans which was an excellent effort. Went on to the grd afterwards & there were loads of them getting their photos taken etc so I guess they enjoyed the holiday if not the result!

To be honest, as I was there with 5 girls aged 6 & under, I was quite happy with a beautiful sunny day, mid-sized crowd and the right result. Lots of fun - my girls will be back I'm sure.

During the Third Quarter the Noble was going ape. The drum was good JF and I also had no idea where it was coming from.

Low crowd yesterday (despite glorious weather):
1. We're obviously aiming at (metaphorically) fairweather supporters to get our numbers at SCG games over 30,000. Those fairweather supporters don't religiously check the results and form guide every week, so they go on whether they've heard that Sydney are no good this year (until a week or two ago, that was the word around the traps) and/or whether Sydney won last time they went to see them (if they saw the Melbourne or Adelaide games, they didn't). Obviously with 3 wins in a row at home, this element will improve.
2. Dogs have a very small supporter base.
3. Headline in last Monday's SMH: 'Why Sydney fans need the NoDoz'. In terms of getting casual observers along, whether we are in fact playing unattractive/boring football is less important than whether people perceive we're playing unattractive football.

I agree that the negative media about Sydney's playing style is hurting attendance figures. Sydney's crowds were good at the start of the season, all around 30,000. Now, despite winning two home games in a row before the Dogs game, yesterdays attendance was the Swans lowest this season. Note, however, that the last time Sydney drew less than 20,000 was a long time ago, possibly back in the 90's (anyone got crowd stats?). That's a far cry from the dark days of the early 90's when Sydney rarely drew more than 10,000 at home.

Labelling Sydney's game as "ugly football" is not a good promotion for the game here. Also, I dont think the Dogs have ever been much of a drawcard in Sydney (Ports the same and so is Freo). Winning more games will help lift crowds, so wins against the Saints and the Blues may see an improvement in attendance figures against Freo, however, I wouldnt expect to see 30,000+ again until the game againts the Pies.

You also find that we always get a bigger crowd on a Saturday night.
Some prefer the Sunday (especially families and some elderly folk)which is understandable, whereas many prefer Saturday night because it doesnt take up all of your day.

But the atmosphere in the MANoble was pretty good I thought.

I found it a more rowdy crowd than normal which was great. Maybe this was because I was sitting in the Bradman as opposed to the Ladies where I normally sit and it sounds different there?

At one point the slow clap started gradually increasing till the ball was bounced in the centre. Was this triggered from the drum?
I thought it was really effective anyway.

JF, a friend who is a roosters supporter made it to the game and was sitting in the members stand. When I saw her this morning she asked me if you guys were the equivalent to the chook pen. She was very impressed with the amount of noise you made. So well done, she rated you better than the chook pen.
