    Captain Scorecard

So after two weeks of Kirk and one week of Leo, how are the candidates stacking up. Here is my list:

Scores awarded out of ten for each game. Consideration should be given to result of the game, quality of opponent, performance of the individual when Captain, any obvious impacts they personally make to influence the result (positive or negative):

    1. Kirk - 17/20 (9 and 8). Blinder against Essendon, being top with disposals and helping conjure a come-from-behind victory. Much quieter against Port, but helped shut down their midfield to ensure a gritty win. His obvious encouragement of junior players around him gives him big points.

    2. Leo - 7/10. Coming off two huge weeks he was unsually quiet this week against the dogs. Still he kept Robert Murphy out of the game, again only allowing him to take marks well outside the 50 and on the wings. His influence in the backline helped limit the scoring opportunities, but overall it was not his best game.

    Thoughts?

I can't see how defensive player like Barry will make an effective captain unless he's freed up to play on the flank and run forward, which seems unlikely.

Kirk still seems most appropriate to me, with either J Bolton or Hall as vice captain. I still worry about Hall's temper at times though - often seems to be bubbling just below the surface.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

barry's a saint compared to cameron mooney haha
easily the angriest man in the AFL at the moment

i'm on the kirk for captain bandwagon, although the way jude's been going he is a fair chance - he has youth on his side compared to kirky
      Roosy = LEGEND

It will be very interesting to see how Jooba goes with the captaincy. He will be one to lead by example, and you can just sense that he will be sensational when he has the (C) next to his name in the Record. However, I still believe Captain Kirk is the man for it atm.
        - Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they've been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing!

This week was a job application by Leo to say 'don't give me the captaincy'. He made more handling errors (3) than he's made in the whole year combined to this point. It could be a mere coincidence that he made these mistakes on the same day that he got a go at captaincy, but I wouldn't want to take a punt on it.

Don't mean to run the guy down, b/c he still played a fine game including a potentially match-saving mark halfway through the last quarter. If they handed out Brownlow medals to backmen he would be an unbackable favourite by now. He's followed up an outstanding 2004 with an even better start to 2005. Get the feeling I admire the dude? He just ain't our captain.

Captain Kirk a mile in front at the moment, including in the popular vote, which in this town counts for something.

I wouldn't hold the handling errors against Leo, he was one of many to fumble the ball. It could of been the pressure of the captaincy, who knows.

He will have some big name opponents next week as opposed to the Dogs lesser lights. Leo may lift his game against the Saints,

But so far, Kirk gets the nod ahead of Leo. It is a bit hard to fire up the troops or offer some advice to the forwards if you only see them at the orange breaks

I believe Kirky is the best choice so far. It will be interesting to see how Jude manages, though I am predicting a little stint under Captain Kirk might not be such a bad option for Jude. I think he'll be a good captain, one day, tho perhaps some more grooming is in order [and I don't mean waxing and tanning, although I am singing its praises in everything else!]

I'm very much looking forward to seeing how Hall plays when he is our captain. but ATM it is Kirky all the way for me, hasn't done much wrong, came something like 4th in the brownlow last year = quality player and has shown he can captain us to victory.

Yes, but there's nothing wrong with having something beautiful to look at, either, is there?!?!

I just think that learning the ropes and working on his game is what needs to happen with Jude. He's got a few years left in that bod of his, though it appears he doesn't have the nature or composure of Kirky. I don't necessarily believe this to be a negative, though. Perhaps another few years and he'll be the best captain Sydney has ever had.

At the aftermatch, the speakers present didn't seem to agree with the spectator choice of Kirky for captain...
Don't get me wrong, no one dissed Kirky or his ability, it was purely opinion. He just didn't rate in their opinions.
