    Umpiring vs Saints

I really dont wanna have to say it and sound like a sore loser, and yes i do know that we did play fairly poorly for most of the game, but not nearly as poorly as the umpiring was while the game was still in the ballance. Slaps out of a pack a throw. A quality 2 grab mark my micky. I could go on but i'll save my self the pain.

SO was it just me? Or did anyone else think it was unusually bad?

In the end the Swans lost the game themselves, not the umpiring.

Still - the umpires are making the game very hard to watch.

I was there and the umps gave the decisions mostly according to crowd noise.

Some Saints fans near me even thought they were doing well!

Yes I am biased, but three Goldsphincter clones would have been more fair. Rarely have I yelled at the TV so much. And it was not only the ones against us but the ones not paid for us.

My favourite is how you can hear the umpire regularly yelling to "get it out! get it out!" and the moment Bucky does it (to avoid ANOTHER free kick against him) its a THROW!

And since when has slapping someones arm on the way down, after the ball sailed a good metre over the contest, constituted a free kick? They must have changed the interpretation at half time, because MOL didn't get the same rule application.

Apparently thats a deadset rule now, it's absolulty rediculous, I would hate to be a defender at the moment, u've got no chance.

When doing the votes some people at 3AW wanted to give a vote to Mc Claren as they thought he was St Kildas 3rd best player. ( for those who don't know he is that bald #*&% umpire).

You also have no chance if you go first for the ball - the very thing coaches tell you to do as soon as you start playing the game.

Yep Wil that is the way this game is going - wait on the outside and attack - you will win the ball.

                  ****ing disgraceful IMHO.

Somehow Buchanan seems to be involved in the contentious decisions. His 2 HTBs were pretty bad tonight. Still, wouldn't have helped us much.

While - as others have - acknowledging that the Swans didn't need the umpires' help to lose this game, it was appalling nonetheless. The Saints friend I was with was laughing at some of the decisions they got. In addition to what has already been mentioned, at least three kicks on goal from the Saints came after a forward had taken his defender out of the contest with a firm pair of hands in the back.

                        Agreed.

McLaren is as bad as Goldspink. The umpiring was so bad that by the second half, the Swans supporters gave a bronx cheer every time we got a free kick. They would have done so in the first half had free kicks for Sydney not been so rare and only paid for the bleeding obvous.

Thanks Liz, at least someone recognises this. LRT has cost heaps for his game but 2 of these went begging against him from Riewolt.

By the way the stats show Riewolt had 9 possessions up to 3Q time.

By my reckoning the free-kick count was 18 to them, 10 to us. Did we get a few in "junk time" or something?

I had to leave half-way through the 3rd -- I was getting a bit too aggro. I shifted seats a couple of times but the Saints fans just seemed to be equally ugly (physically & metaphorically) wherever I went.

Captain Sook (Revolt) received 3 frees for, none against. Unbelievable. As already mentioned our game last night probably wasn't good enough to win, but seriously the umpiring was just about the strongest example of double-standards I have ever witnessed.

Roos should show up to next weeks press conference with a $10,000 cheque for the maggots and just launch into them. They were a disgrace.

I never knew there was an umpire as bad as Goldstink, but scotty Mclaren proved me wrong. How could he pay the chopping of the arms on Reiwoldt (which was a correct call) but have Hudgton do the same to Mickey O and call play on?

                              Maybe Hird was right?
