I have reservation on playing Kennelly as a pure midfielder. His game does not seem to be quite suited to that. His best play is running straight (with a bit of evasive on either size) which then followed by a long kick. I noticed during the Dogs/Port game, when he was in the midfield, he was not able to put the boot on the ball quickly enough to effect a clearance. If McVeigh is an outside midfielder, Kennelly would be an out and out outside midfielder so to speak. May be his best position is at the Half Back Flank after all, at least on the smaller ground like the SCG.

On another matter I'm a bit puzzled with "Roos conceded that a lack of coaching was behind some basic errors committed by young players" I reckon he may be overcoaching them, they look confused (and not just the youngies).

Schneider does not have the body, aerobic capacity or speed for AFL. For a man of his size speed in many cases is their asset. Too often he labours behind players and doesn't run to make space or a contest because of his lack of speed.

He is so typical of the old fashioned reserves player. Any other level but the top level, he is a star.

It was bloody stupid of Schneider to attempt to bounce the ball at the most vunerable time of his evasion manouvure. surely this is taught to young players. You only bounce when you are clear. He had a good 5 - 7 paces avaliable to bounce in once he was around.

All this talk about a "game plan" . I don't believe such a thing exists anywhere. footy is a pretty simple game - Get the footy down to the goals and kick a score. Score more than the opposition. It's not rocket science.

I think the only people I have heard talk about the "game plan" are the media and people on chat boards like this. And always when a team is losing.

In thw West Chris Connolly is always attacked when Freo are losing because "he hasn't got a Plan B".

If Sydneys "game plan" is so bad how come the opposition can't rise above it? All I heard from the Channel 10 commentators (Walls in particular) was how bad Sydney's style of play was. Well excuse me there were two sides out there and as far as I could see St Kilda where just as bad and boring as Sydney. So where was there fantastic game plan? . If their "game plan" was so good and superior why didn't they rise miles and miles above Sydney. They didn't. They only got on top in the last quarter when it seemed the SS guys had given up the chase.

I reckon your wrong about the speed, I think he's one of the fastest players off the mark we've got.
He certainly does not have an athlete's body (although I think recruiters are starting to get over that nonsense and look for footballers again) so I don't reckon it's a total negative.
As to his aerobic capacity, I couldn't agree more and it concerned me that after his poor 2004 season he showed up to pre-season this year overweight (didn't Mott get dumped for that?).

There are game plans, set ups, strategies, etc.

When one side is clogging up the game with ball up after ball up, then it does strangle the other side to a certain extent.

I think the criticism ATM stems from the fact that we are missing the "kick more goals than the other mob" part of a winning mentality and relying on being able to make them kick less than us.

Stand Schneider next to Paul Williams and you will see a lot of similarities in build. Indeed, I would say that Willo doesn't have an athlete's body. Doesn't stop him being a darn good footballer.

I'm with you on Schneider's speed. He is still affected - mentally at least - by his hamstring issues from last year. Roos came out and said as much a few weeks ago.

I also think you've hit the nail on the head re his aerobic capacity. I reckon Schneider's main issue is that he hasn't yet realised how much work goes into making it at the top level, especially when you're not a natural athlete. But some of this will come with a bit more maturity and there are plenty of other young footballers out there for whom the same could be said.

Schneider could become a very good footballer if he wants to do it enough. Whether he will or not, only time will tell.
