    Long live Sydney

I've had an epiphany. @@@@ em! I don't care how ugly our game plan is, as long as we win. I have had a gut full of d****head commentators crapping on about us and sinking the boot in.

Listening to 3AW today made me realise that the media in Melbourne have formed a bandwagon and the whole thing has become victimisation of Paul Roos.

I don't care who we have or have not beaten. I don't care what the stats say. The whole of Melbourne can crawl up its own collective backside.

I want to see some more ugle, scrappy, back breaking man on man high possession footy. As long as we win, I don't care.

At least our captain isn't a cry baby.

    Love is unconditional!

Long live Roos. Long live the swans.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Postscript....as long as they don't make Ben Matthews captain.

      Well, I do care.

      Paranoia is ugly too!

BTW - the guys complaining about Roos are all good mates of his, so they hardly have it in for him.

I must agree. I am quite over Melbourne and their stupid [non-Swans] people after last weekend's trip.

I am so glad we socked it to Carlton. Anyone else think their club song sounds like one, long stripping song??? Check it out. Not the kind of thing I want to be running around to!

[After an unattractive first half when the Swans dominated possession, they never enjoyed a large lead due to their over-use of the ball.]

          This is from the AFL.
I can only speak for myself but I thought we played very well in the 1st Q. We got out to a 4 goal lead and played good footy, sometimes I think people in the media only say this stuff because it is expected.

I think unattractive overstated it a bit, but it wasn't great footy. We played pretty well in the first qtr. The second qtr saw a lot of overuse of the ball. There was some flooding by Carlton, particularly late, however we fiddled around with it rather than moved it forward effectively.

This, to me, seems to be the crux of the complaint from the more knowledgeable commentators. We have some great players in the forward and we had the chance to set up a big lead at half time, but we messed about with the ball (35 more possessions to half time).

Does that include a drunken state (and I don't mean Qld)?

We've played a lot of kids this year. One cannot make beautiful swans without them being cygnets first. Perhaps we should send the AFL a copy of the fairytale "The Ugly Duckling".

How about the Emperor's New Clothes with Demetriou as the emperor (Actually, in a few years, he'll do a fair version of Palpatine).

I mean, what else could those journos have written about after today's effort? Something good about us? Pfffff!
I know for a fact there is usually a resounding groan in the press box when a team comes from behind to win, or turns around a losing streak or something of that nature. Apparently, few people want to read about a fairytale, because fairytales are not interesting -- everyone lives happily ever after. But, damnit, I like fairytales! I loved tonight's one!

There's a very good article by Martin Flanagan in Saturday's Age (perhaps someone can put up a link - I'm not up to that yet) around an interview with Nathan Buckley. He turns out to be a very thoughtful judge of the game. He criticised a media scribe for saying the Adelaide-Melbourne game was s--t. Buckley found it absorbing. He noticed that each side had a loose man in defence and thought the side that solved that problem first would win. This is the sort of incisive, enlightening comment that makes a game interesting and that scribes and commentators are supposed to make and all too often don't.
A 'dour' game (and today's wasn't) can be absorbing, if you can see what's going on.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
