    Re: Barry? Jude? Brett?

"At least our captain will have a real-life personality, without the need for Eddie to generate one via TFS"

    Ahh, that's a bit harsh!

Hard luck stories aside, Bazz will be better for it than Adam, Jude or Brett, who would all be very capable captains. But I've got a feeling that Bazz will lift himself and the team in a way the others wont.

To add some spice, maybe a couple of new candidates ('intruders') could be introduced at the second stage - ie a couple of 'improvers' not originally in the leadership group but who have made rapid progress this year. Ablett might be one. Maybe LRT the other?

And to top it off, we could ask SSI to administer and audit the whole process.

(Sorry - couldn't resist that last bit!)
The trouble with the SMS voting, it i always the young ones who vote multiple times, so we never get a "true" result - (See Logies for examples), while the older "smarter" generation have no idea how to uses SMS, or couldn't be stuffed.

      We need a members referendum!

Shrugged off two (??) desperate tacklers deep in the FWD pocket to run in for a goal.

Fence sitting. Swinging like a monkey. Unable to commit. Flapping like Homer J.

I was a fully paid up member of the BBBBHall for skipper mode at the start of the year. This waned somewhat with his drop in form and the way Kirk picked up, to the extent that I was adamant that Kirky should be given the role.

In that though, I'm still adamant that he as VC should've been given the role pro tem and the whole leadership group been put under notice that the job was open.

I'm back on the Hall bandwagon atm as I've seen how much he wants it, and how much the team responds to him.

Don't get me wrong - I love Kirky; I love what he has done for himself, the example he sets for the younger blokes (a la Stuey...reflected in Kirky's incredible improvement in himself) and the way he just goes about his job. His decision making, his non-stop dedication to the pill, his recognition of his strengths and weaknesses, and his publicised off-field oddities. IMO, a tremendous human being and a great leader of men by example.

But Barry... as captain of the club he is an intimidating figure. This was my initial leaning toward him...wants and demands the ball to be involved and to change the game. These things haven't changed. Love to see him kick a bag on Sunday.

Can you see team mates shirking issues under Barry (not that we do now, mind)? Do you think the players will walk a little taller? Do you think that the non-Aussie Rules public would prefer a man with a mean reputation? Somebody gave the reason that Jude Bolton is extremely 'photogenic' and would be the darling of the Sydney set should he be selected. I reckon though, a perceived ugly bruiser like Barry who is strident about the club and the direction it is travelling, who is expressive, dominant, who trains hard, plays hard, demands respect, demonstrates great leadership to the young'uns (the Wally Jackson incident, as noted above) and the ball in play must be a wonderful choice.

Bloody hell. I dunno. And despite my comments re Jude above, I reckon he's great and would possibly be a great skipper. As, perhaps would Goodesy.

I think for the first time ever I'll leave it up to the Swans admin to make a better choice in selection.

The game you want is Rd 4 1999 - SCG a hotchpotch of odd-coloured seats thanks to the hailstorm during the week. Swans about 40pts down at halftime having kicked about 3 goals to that point and staring down a 4th straight defeat to start the season. Late in the game with the Swans on the charge, Kelly just willed himself to break a couple of tackles in the forward pocket and finished truly.

                I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

... Eade comes running on the ground after the game in shirt sleeves and shirt tail flapping and races to his players. He's very excited and says it's the best win in his time at the club and it can really turn the season around... we lose by 81 points the following week against Adelaide...
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Round 3 this year, Paul Roos describes the win agains Brisbane as one of the best in his time at the club and it can really turn the season around... we get belted the following week against Adelaide at the SCG....

It's deja vu all over again with the Swans!

I wonder why, he's a year or two older than Jude Bolton, he's represented Australia. Is he not in the "leadership group"?

I'm not sure how Mathews can be in the leadership group and Crouch not.

Crouch always seems to be doing a lot of work on the ground talking to players.

As has been pointed out before, the leadership group is voted for by the players. How they vote, who knows??

Well put Moca - you've almost got me convinced.

I was very impressed by Bazz's efforts last week. No doubt he'd bring something different than Kirky - who in turn would bring something special himself. Tuff call.

And, maybe it's way too PC, but wouldnt it be nice to have a strong, talented, articulate Aboriginal lad who's aware of his heritage and culture as captain?

Can't have them all I guess but nice to know we're richer for leaders than we might have otherwise guessed.
