    Micky O - Going at 50% or 100%?

Mick has had some terrific moments in the last month but his shocking moments haven't been scrutinised at all. I am not sure why but I personally think he can lift his game within the boundaries of his injuries.

Most of it is Mick's decision making with ball in hand too. I reckon he's inadvertently creaming about 2 to 3 goals a game with crazy decisions. During the Dogs game, a game he did some great stuff in, he botched 3 goals before he got going. My mates around me were labelling him "Have A Shot Mick" because of some selfish looking play.

He also took too many steps running into goal on Saturday and passed off into 50 into rubbish pack situations that even the average Carlton backmen were capable of clearing.

As I say, within his limitations, I think he can do even better. There is no reason Mick can't kick bags of 8 or even assist 2 or 3 more majors a game.

Am I being too harsh? I reckon he could smash Fremantle on Sunday if he focuses for 4 quarters.

    Thoughts?

4 goals in the second half will do me if that is his 50%.

And 2 kicks (to O'Keefe and Hall) that led to marks and goals.....I'll take that sort of output.

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

He is a great player restricted by injury - but still our most creative player - a champ!

He is getting a bit freer in movement each week though I reckon - love to see him at 85%.

With a player like Mick you've got to take the good with the bad. fortunately for us his good far outweighs the bad. The thing is he does the magical things that make him such an exciting player.

it's only worth having a player like micky on the field in his half-mobile state if you've got him there to trust his instincts and do the magic.

he'd be useless as a support player.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

I read somewhere that Roos thinks that, using him the way they do, they hope Mick can keep going for five or more years. I can't remember where it was written - probably one of the Herald Sun's match reports. It stunned me that he said it, though... it flies in the face of what I thought was the conventional wisdom that Mick had only a couple more years.

He suffers (mainly) as I understand it from tendonitis of the knee. As explained somewhere recently (Gerard the physio on WLF perhaps?), apparently that's a pain management issue - it comes and goes & will limit his preparation, pre-season training etc but as long as we don't expect him to play as a dominant midfielder can probably still squeeze a few more years out of him.

AS universally agreed here, I'll take a semi-fit Mick over a fully fit mere mortal any weekend.

I reckon he still does heaps of stuff to inspire the team and have a significant influence on the game.

On Saturday evening on my way back to Sydney from Docklands I was at Tullamarine with both the Weagles and the Swans. MOL was looking very uncomfortable and was hobbling and limping quite badly. He may well be able to manage the physical pain for a few more years. However, mentally, it must be tough to feel as crappy as what he looked on a week-to-week basis.

On another note, it was intersting to see that the Weagles did some nasty power-eating at Hungry Jacks while they were waiting and the Swans waited in the Qantas club.

Is Hungry Jacks their sponsor? (l0l) I believe Roger James has MOL's condition as well and is struggling to get on the park. I mentioned last year that I heard MOL interviewed prior to the 2004 season and he said he'd be a week to week proposition from now on. I guess two weeks on the hard TD surface doesn't help though.

I had knee tendinitis in college playing volleyball. The gymnasiums were brutal, and you make a good point about the mental aspect of pain management. I've had posterior cruciate strains and meniscus tears, and neither were nearly as painful as the tendinitis. Especially will MOL's propensity to start and stop. The stopping is what causes the pain. I cringe in memory of it even now.

The weagles players have a card that gives them free HJ's whenever and wherever they want. I heard that Sampi got his confiscated as he was wolfing down too many bacon deluxes after training.

Back on Magic, i dont see why he couldnt play for a few more years and stay in the goalsquare. kinda like lynch's last few years at brissy
