Regardless of those (correct) comments, I still think that Malceski deserves his spot ahead of Macca. We need to develop both players, they player a similar role at the moment, and I see no purpose in putting one player who is not playing well at the senior level, ahead of another who has had only a tiny portion of the chances of the first.

Macca is only so far ahead in game-time to Nick because of injury (or lack thereof) and possibly reputation. But with seven rounds to go, and Macca still struggling to make a regular impact, I think giving his spot to Malceski is warranted. Yes the reserves are a bit of a farce, but 44 possies and 5 goals demands selection.

To me Malceksi looks more composed and better-skilled ATM.

I think Roosy is nursing our young players..just giving them a taste of senior footy so they know what to expect in the future if they are going to make it.
Actually I have the stats from Saturday night in front of me and there are some interesting points.
GAME TIME: McVeigh had 63 mins for 7 possessions
Moore had 47 mins for 5 possessions
Crouch had 83 mins for 7 possessions including a great goal.
Of the bigger players LRT had 4 possessions in 109 minutes. On the other hand his job is to stop his opponent from gaining possessions.
Dempster also had interesting stats. In 115 mins he had 6 disposals and 3 frees against.
I was surprised that ROK was our highest stat getter with 23 disposals in 100 minutes which was great to see him return to the form we know he is capable of.

It was probably Dempster's poorest game he's played in the seniors.

But by barry's LRT-rating scale, he had a terrific game because his opponent only kicked one and that was from advantage from a free kick.

which he gave away . One thing with Dempster is that his acceleration of the mark is not so great and his turning agility is a bit too sluggish. A slippery forward would have him found out which was the case in the Richmond game and perhaps in the Geelong game as well.

Speaking of Buchanan, it brings to my attention the case of the only and only Schneider (Adam, not Bernd who played well for Germany as leftback in the Confederation cup . With Buchanan in the side and the up and coming of Schmidt, Willoungby and Moore i think it is likely that Schneider might be traded at the end of the year. He should bring some value but might be the trade that comes back and hurts us. Still it would be very difficult to fit three of our small men to the team I think.

Nick will play this weekend I reckon:

"It does put the guys on guard as little bit because your form can?t afford to drop off over a 2-3 week period because you are looking over your shoulder. From that point of view it is good for the coaching staff."
Sounds like a direct reference to McVeigh (who looked very dirty singing the song after last weekend's game, and I'm not referring to his guernsey).

Pretty strong signal that Malceski will come in for McVeigh, and possibly Saddo for Moore, depending on match-ups.

Would love to see Schmidt finally get his chance but I fear it won't be this week. Could only really come in as a direct replacement for Moore, and that would be a little unfair on Moore given he did OK with very limited opportunities.

Must admit, Macca has fallen off my radar a bit. He runs beautifully, has a lovely looking kicking action, but none of this is converting to goals when he has his chances (Freo game aside).

He isn't running hard from the backline when he's down there too. Should be getting on the end of some of these quick handpasses and streaking through the middle of the ground.

We've got the toughest month of footy imaginable coming up and we need men with the bodies to commit to all contests.

Moorey was ok last week, bit disappointed he didn't make more of his opportunities in front of goal.

I think he needs another FULL pre-season to work on his agility, pace, skin folds and general poise at AFL level. The natural talent is sitting there waiting to be unlocked!

Perhaps McVeigh will give way for Malceski (It surprises me that Jared still looks like he belongs in the U18's, he still hasn't bulked up). Besides I'd like everyone to have an opportunity to see what a supurbly accurate field kick Malceski is.

I also notice someone commenting on my love child Dempster's turning circle being of concern. This is especially the case when playing against clever smalls.
He's quick, he had that good game on the wing against Black I think, but not enormously agile ~ he's 6.3 and has a far bigger frame than Malceski for example (who'se also tall).
His marking doesn't impress me hugely but you have to love the length of his kicks.

I don't think More should be dropped, I think a kid should get at least 2 games in the seniors when he gets promoted ~ otherwise they get too nervous. Schmidt's done more pre-seasons than Jared More so he's certainly fitter, but Jared's seems quicker off the mark.

I'd like to see Dempster play further up the ground - he's quick and has a good quick. What a waste to leave him in the back pocket.

Dempster always seems slow to me, but I think that might have something to do with his 'turning circle', as Ruckman said. Would love to see Malceski back in the team, but I'm not sure who it should be at the expense of. Moore should not be dropped after just one game, and although McVeigh hasn't made a huge impact, he's not going to improve in the seconds. The biggest problem I have with him is that he seems to be brushed off by opponents too easily, and that's simply because he's not bulky enough. It's be nice if he could convert as well.

It's a difficult one - it'll probably come down to matchups in the end.
