I heard Rodney Eade on the radio on Friday morning and he said Dunkley wanted to play for another year but the coach didn't want him. That sure was a surprise to me.

This doesn't seem that credible to me. Either it was Eade who didn't want him, and then why (given that you sound like Eade was making a criticism) would he stick it into himself. Or (more likely) he was having a dig at Roos. And if that were the case, I would hardly think that Roos would have shared his plans with Eade! Both Dunks and Kel were incredibly supportive of Roosy, both coming out to publicly endorse Roos as coach when they didn't have to - so I can't imaginge Dunks doing a dummy spit behind Roos' back to Eade.

Just sounds like sour grapes to me.

Eade said he was puzzled by the decision in view of Dunkleys desire to continue.

Motives?? I don't know. He said it all in a sentence or two as part of a discussion of the game. The person he was talking to didn't pick him up on the point so it wasn't expanded on. One thing is for sure it sounded like he would have availed himself of Dunkleys services for another year.

Whether it was Dunkley's choice or Roos' is irrelevant IMO. It was the best decision for the long term future of the club. Sure, if Dunks had been out there last night Neitz might have scored a couple of goals fewer. On the other hand he might not. Before last season he was a player that Dunks often struggled on in any case.

As has been written often on here and elsewhere, we're not going to win the premiership this year - and probably not next year or the year after either. Dunks won't be around in 2005 onwards by which time we need to have found others to hold the defence together. It will take time, but they are less likely to be found with Dunks still there. I'm sure we'll see LRT, Powell and Hunt all given chances this year down back, maybe not at full-back but somewhere down there, with a hope one of them will eventually fill the role. And if none of them is up to it, Roos is under no illusions that he will need to go out and find someone who is.

Warfe is a dud and with Mcpherson should never play again

POwell really showed something in the Wizard game against
              Brisbane.

We need to give LRT a chance

Powell and LRT in now !!!!

Although I would love to have seen Dunkley continue, I agree that in the long-term, given our 'new youth policy' I think his retirement made most sense. We have to address the backline problems at some stage, so why not now!
