Round 16 Positives

Its back again. Lets have some feel-good happy thoughts to psych ourselves up for next week's blockbuster against the Weagles.

Jason Ball's game was a pearla, especially considering our rucks have struggled a little over the last couple of games.

We kicked more goals than behinds. Ryan played well. Kirk had alot of possessions. LRT better than usual. The banner was shown to the whole stadium (not just one side). The umpiring wasn't the same old same "shocking". We managed to win with less free kicks than Melbourne.

The most pleasing thing for me was the spread of good contiributions from the players. My 1-2-3 could have come from any of say 10 players. And it also means there is room for improvement from Williams/N.Davis/Schneider etc.

Are you saying Willo, Davis and Schneider need improving?

Only Schneider does.

There were so many positives its difficult to list them all. Am having trouble deciding my TLM votes for the game. The biggest postive is that Sydney has found its best form at the right time of year. The team that played last night played like the team that played against Geelong. If they can maintain that high standard for the rest of the year .....

I meant Willo, ND and Schneider can play better than they did in that particular match. So overall the team can still improve for next week - and they might need to, if they are to beat the Wiggles.

- Great team performance - pleanty of contributors
- Accurate goal kicking
- Good intensity, pressure and tackling
- Players manned up really well, preventing Melbourne from playing their quick, hard-running game
- Robertson well nullified by C.Bolton - has been dangerous against us in the past
- Good use of Ball and Jolly in the ruck and around the ground
- Key players beginning to hit form at right time, esp Hall, O'Keefe, Goodes and Kirk
- Heaps of great 1%ers effected by the likes of Bolton and Buchanan
- Responded well to pressure when Dees hit back in final quarter

Probably the best positive is the overall cohesion and confidence of the side at a time when we really need to make our mark

I said it last week and it happened again this week.

We are winning the ball out of the centre. The players are going for the footy rather than worry about their man at centre bounces. Goodes is the go when there is a clear possession. When we got it out quick we had Hall and MOL in front leading. MOL particularly reads the centre bounce well and is quickly on the lead. Look at the first and third Quarters for this, then compare the first half of the last Q when Melbourne had a run on.

We are getting more players into the forward line and deeper. Only picked once when our forwards were sucked up the ground, I think in the first half of the last Q. So we are giving ourselves more options to kick goals and the opposition now have to look for opponents rather than flooding to block BH and MOL.

I think that Willo has been a bit subdued over the past few weeks. Strangely enough he was more prolific just after he returned from injury. But the midfield is sharing the load more.

Schneider needs to improve his one on one work and at times his kicking.

They didn't seem to play through Davis that much last night but he was still handy. That banana goal on the run is not as easy as it looked.

Just a few things.

- Goodes in the centre bounces is really coming to fruition. It was all clear to everyone on this site that this move had to be done.
- Bucky!!!! Enough Said.
- Hall. If he wasn't getting a different set of rules from the umps, we'd be a clear 2nd place by now.
- C Bolts, Could he be our most underated player in our team?
-Ball, If this is his last year then Doyle has some huge boots to fill.

I've mentioned a few of mine in other threads and some have already been raised in this one, but in no particular order:

- IMHO our best performance of the year; the closest we have been to a full four quarter effort
- Jason Ball playing easily his best game of the year
- A forward setup that didn't have a huge contribution from Magic inside forward 50 (although it did seem he was covering more ground upfield than he has been of late - a sign of improving fitness) showing the versatility of our options up forward
- The continuing return to form of Ryan O'Keefe - with him getting more of the ball around the centre line, it allows Barry Hall to stay deeper in attack and hence be more of a scoring threat for more of the time
- The continued improvement in centre clearances - with our forward line having so many options, a quick clearance provides us with the extra space to take advantage of that
- Amon Buchanan continuing his strong form
_ LRT playing, IMHO, his best game of the year and actually winning some ball for us rather than being a purely negating player

I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

LRT tried all night & made some good plays - gotta do a lot for his confidence (which has been woeful - particularly if he's been reading this forum).
Cameron Bruce being kept out of the game
Jason Ball
Conversion of inside 50
Melb's lack of conversion (well, apart from Neitz)
Steady improvement over the season - can't wait for the weekend
We controlled the game. Some may say we let the D's back in at times, but they never got closer than a goal, which means any surge was snuffed out before it became a legit challange. Crushed their confidence.

Across the board great win. Sets up our season nicely.
