    Round 16 Negatives

It can't have been all clear sailing last night. What needs to be fixed to make us true contenders against the all-conquering Eagles?

It was disappointing to see Dempster and Malceski spend so much time on the bench. It also would have been nice to bury the demons in the last quarter, but as the swans do far too often, they took the foot off the pedal and allowed the Demons to rally late to get everyone's heart rates up just a little.

    My negatives:

LRT didn't kick atleast one of his 2 goals! As sharpie said, didn't see much of Dempster and Malceksi. We should've won by a bit more.
Vicky Pollard: Oh my god I so can't believe you just said that this is like the time I threw Anita's nokia in the canal as a joke and she's like you have well got to buy me another one and I'm like get over it and then Paul came over who's adopted anyway and started saying that I fancy Mark Bennett but oh my god just because I have sex with someone doesn't mean I fancy them.

A team with its back against the wall like Melbourne was always going to come out firing in the last quarter.

While it was nerve-rattling, Hall should have had a free kick before Melbourne got their third (from a dubious free kick). That was a 12 point turnaround and probably made the game a lot closer than it should have been.

The best thing was we didn't seem to panic and ended up getting the ball forward to steady the ship.

We're still suspetible to a big FF kicking a bag against us. I'm not comfortable going into the finals with leo barry as our only option.

I think that they should have kept Dempster on the field in defence and played Schneider in the forward pocket. Dempster's been playing OK so it seemed unfair to bench him for most of the night.

I'm not too upset about the Dees coming back like that in the last quarter and I dont think that it was because Sydney took its foot off the pedal. Rarther, the Dees are a good side and were desperate to win. Sydney did well too halt the Dees roll with two match sealing goals.

A big negative was not playing Schauble. We needed him on Nietz last night.

There wasn't really an obvious match-up for Dempster last night. Apart from Neitz, they rely on a lot of smaller, agile blokes. Dempster is fine running in a straight line but isn't the most nimble bloke running around at this stage of his career.

I don't really think there was a great deal Leo could do last night, and I'm not convinced that Schauble would have done any better. I am concerned about the tendancy of the backs to give away soft frees however. Barry and LRT both gave away frees for pulling on the arm. You just can't afford to give away kicks in front of goal like that, esp against quality opposition.

Buchanan takes a the second baulk instead of delivering first time. In the first Q he did it twice when running straight into goal and turned it over both times. Got to get it out of his game.

Yeah, but we still only conceded 11 goals to one of the most attacking sides in the comp.

There isn't a defender alive who would be confident of negating Neitz . . . if he had've received the delivery that Hall got, he could easily have kicked 10 . . . and we still would've won

Neitz was getting kickable shots on goal from body-on-body marking contests, either from taking the mark or Leo giving away a free. Schauble is an excellent body-on-body defender. If the Melbourne midfield was better Neitz could have kicked a lot more than 6.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Melbourne was also going to keep persisting given their season and reputations were on the line. Disappointing was the failure of the midfielders sometimes to go with the first and best option. LRT's kicks for goal were pitiful and clearly there is a need for a quality taller key defender.

                            TURNOVERS.

Excusable somewhat last night as we were under fierce pressure.
Still an area where we can improve, however.

they kicked the last 2 goals in each of the first 3 quarters (i think) - if they'd done that in the last it could've been ugly.
