Is this kid the most promising youngster to play for the swans in the last 6-7 years ?
Schneider?

In a word
YES
Why because unlike others he has the skills and won't go home. Great player so far, loves a goalOnce was, now elsewhere -
Absolutely. Something I hadn't thought about until Eade mentioned it at the end of the game on the radio commentary, but the fact he played seniors in his local comp from age 14 meant that physically he was ready for AFL seniors, whereas the kids who only come through the TAC Cup (to nominate for the draft, you must play there if I understood correctly), do not have the physical presence simply because they are not used to playing against grown men.
But he has the skills, the brain, the composure and that bit of arrogance to go a long long way.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

A performance full of heart
Well done Sydney, didn't play great footy until the last quarter but at least kept trying for 4 quarters,,, you showed passion to play tonite,,, I have been Jude Boltons greatest critic, but he seems to be improving this year, getting the ball a lot more and being more accountable.
Well done Swannies,,, Can we do it again next week, lets hope so,,

In a word NO.
Goodes is, probably followed by Kennelly.
Wait and see till he starts getting closer attention.
Deserves rising star nomination, love his balance and long kicking, that tank body will fill out a gem - hopefully he can develop into a fat arsed centreman/ ball getting machine - but lets not put much pressure on.
I've decide to name him "Chief" after Roy Schneider's character in JAWS - did Roy Schneider play 'Popeye' Doyle in The French Connection? You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby ZieglerComment

I listened to that too and was also interested to hear talk about the trend now to recruit natural footballers rather than star athletes (who are then moulded into footballers), as has been the recent practice.Originally posted by Mike_B

That will be interesting to see, but at this stage I rate him over Kennelly.Originally posted by Reggi

Yes he is in front of kennelly in his first year and I reckon goodes just eclipses schniederNo.1 ticket holder of Nick Davis Fan Club...Comment

Schneider was ready to go well before the siren. He had run and was pumped up - eager to get going. What Eade said re him playing Seniors at 14 is true - know for fact from relatives. That is why he is not fazed by Seniors here.
What a game, he is really cluey and certainly hope he gets Rising Star nomination really soon.Love those Swans

Woo Hoo - I'm EXCITED!!!!!
As I posted below, Scheider I believe is the new Cressa, tough, in and under ball disposer who makes others look great. Comparing Kenelly to Schneider is like comparing bulldogs to greyhounds. They both have different styles of play, and are on field for different reasons.
Lets hope this obsession with calling him "little" Schneider passes. It is becoming derogatory, and as stated, he's not little. Would you want to pick a fight with him? I don't think so.
Kenelly is truly exciting, and will be invaluable, but Schneider has a different role, and I believe he will acquit himself well in all games.

I spoke to an old St george guy who is now part of the swans
He said that Schneider is the sort of player who will get the ball, run past his opponent, show him the ball, bang thru a goal then go back and give his opponent a gobfull of cheek.
He backs himself, he is a genuine crummer (how long since we've had one of these) and is talented.

What a great moment in all of our livesComment

And THIS is his best attribute IMHO. I have not ever seen him (in his 5 games so far) do the stuttering indecisive waltz of the swan at half-forward that so many of his teammates are so fond of. Picks an option and follows through with it, and NOT AFRAID to have a ping at the big sticks.Originally posted by Roscoe
He backs himself
That is also the reason I don't mind seeing Nick Davis get the ball within 60m of goal - you KNOW he's going to have a go at them.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....
