Regulars will know my obsession with omens, portents and superstition when it comes to football...the dead kangaroo on the roadside beside the welcome to the ACT sign on the way to Canberra last year for one...but Sunday must take the cake. Flicking thru Foxtel before heading to the SCG I came across an old b&w movie on the Turner Classic channel...then the strains of a familiar song caught my attention....something about lifting a noble banner high and shaking down thunder from the sky...yep it was Knute Rockney:All American, the film that we got our club song from -- the Notre Dame March. After that....how could we lose?

Here is an omen for you.
I have two best mates who follow the Swans with me and the three of us have all spent lenghty amounts of time in Europe in;
1996
2003
2005
All going to plan we are in a preliminary final at least this year

I read an article at the start of the year about Craig Bolton. Can't quite remeber all the details but apparently in his first season with Brisbane, they were eliminated in the preliminary final. The next year, they were eliminated in a semi-final. The next year they won the premiership. Now in Bolton's first season with the swans (2003), we lost in the prelim final. The next year we lost in the semi-final. So if all goes according to the C.Bolton plan, we should win the flag this year.Comment

But if we do win the premiership i elect we sell him and win two more premierships in a row."Red and White for blood cells, Red and White for wine."

For some reason I have a long-held belief that -- regardless of ladder positions -- a flag year for us is one in which we:
- Beat the Crows in Adelaide, and
- Beat Essendon in Melbourne (esp. the 'G', but the Dome will do)
Amazingly, this portent comes back-to-back this year, starting this Saturday. If we somehow get up for both games, I'll seriously considering taking my tent & sleeping bag to the local Ticketek office. To all those people who waited 72 years to see a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans premiership HERE IT IS!!Comment

The only time I ever went to Sydney was February, 1996. Maybe it's time for me to see a Swans home game."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

We've never lost a game where I made my biscuits properly- the icing, the players names, the whole thing. So I plan on making them every match for the rest of the season....
I'm absurdly superstitious about football. I have about ten different good luck items I have to take to every game. I got new red-and-white earings (thanks to Tuesday) about 7 weeks ago, and forgot to wear them for the Richmond game, so they currently have a 100% success rate.
I could go on, but it really is quite dull and uninteresting.Comment

Looks like Europe is the place to be to guarantee a Swans premiership... I know that Schneidergirl and her sister, Pink Lady, are travelling in the south of France right now, but promise to cut short their European tour if we make a preliminary final...Wonder if they went to see the Madrid Bulls play when they were in Spain...?"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."Comment

I'm desperate to put back my Cressa av, but since I've had the Sally Robbins one, we've been playing extra good footy, and I don't want to spoil it...
It's a real dilemma for me, but if I put Cressa back up I KNOW we'll start having a bad patch again..."Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."Comment

well i tried the overseas move to get a flag, and it totally ****ed up.
but remember my post last week about my funny feelings before matches?
i had it before brisbane this year up the road, and before last week.
i still have it this week. a first.
in 96 i had it against west coast in the last round and before both finals. i confused it in the GF because that was nausia. but this week im as fit as a mallee bull.
