It would have been nice to see another jumper from the club's history... But meh. I like the V.

I reckon the hooped socks go well with the white back - they don't go too well with the all-red though

Only if we only play Melbourne in that game - we have an issue of clashing socks with them, and their alternates with a blue band at the top is a pretty poor excuse for an alternate.

I've never understood why the Dees don't just switch to blue socks for clashing games.

Probably has a lot to do with the heritage of both clubs.

Melbourne were after all known as The Redlegs for many years, and South/Sydney wore the striped socks up until the mid 70's when coloured shorts were introduced to make things brighter for colour TV. The plain red socks that we wear are only a relatively new innovation in comparison to the Dees.

What annoys me though is why we have to always change our socks when we play Brisvegas. Make them wear yellow socks I say!

Gee is there no real footy to discuss. I can't believe I've contributed to a thread on socks. (Unless of course we want to start a thread on the Redsox!!! )

On the subject of the heritage jumper.. If you want to grab one before the weekend, head down to Mick Simmons on George St in the city (I went there at lunchtime to check out the new A-League strips.. but I digress!).. I saw 3-4 2005 heritage jerseys hanging up. I didn't bother as they are virtually the same as the ones I have from 2003 and 2004!

The club has numerous jumpers from its history.

They should use a different one every year instead of being boring and picking the same one.

Had a look in the AFL Store today & saw the our heritage jumper, of course it looks the same as every other year but i noticed it has SMFC written on the back just like our home & away jumper, was that also written on the 2004 heritage jumper? i have the 2003 one & it dosent have that written on the back.

Yep, the 2004 heritage guernsey had SMFC on the back.

I'd really like to see this whole heritage round concept taken one step further with a return to traditional grounds just for the day. I realise that there are certain impracticalities involved such as sponsor resistance, ground conditions and facilities, logistics etc, but how cool would it be to see a game at Lake Oval again?

For this to work consideration would have to be given to ground capacity, which would mean playing Port or Freo, or possibly North or the Doggies.

I reckon fans would really lap up a trip back to Lake Oval, or Glenferrie, Arden St, Punt Rd for that matter. If it became a well coordinated annual event I reckon the above dramas could be overcome. A taste of real footy, as opposed to the sterile, corporate concrete and plastic vision of today.

Have you seen the old Lakeside Oval lately? Not only would they have to bring the facilities up to scratch.. er... there is a soccer grandstand right in the middle of the half-forward flank.

Even a game at the junction oval would be awesome.

I drive past The Lakeside Oval (work in the heart of South Melbourne) everyday and just look at the grandstand thats falling to bits. The SMSC have destroyed the ground and its configuration. The ground will never host another game of rules the way it is atm.
