Main thing is we finish top 4. Then i'll worry about who we play in the finals.

I wonder what the stats are for top 4 losers, winning in the 2nd week where a significant home ground advantage exists.Originally posted by NMWBloods
Of course, the other issue to factor in if losing is who we will play in the SF - we still have to win that to actually worry aboutthe PF!
I'd guess its close to 90%.
Even Port were doing it in their choking years.Comment

I am worried about the Essendon game this week. I couldn't remember the last time we defeated Essendon here in Melbourne, I knew it was a long time ago. I looked it up on the AFL statistics site - it was in 1989 at Windy Hill by 5 points. Let's hope that the streak doe not continue. I will be barracking hard.
Cheers

Since the current finals system was introduced that gave an advantage to the top four (2000?), only one side from the bottom four has made it to a preliminary final. The implication is that all but one semi final was won by the top four side that lost the previous week.Originally posted by barry

If the system was introduced in 2000, then there have been ten semi finals. Thus your guess of 90% would be spot on."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Doesn't surprise me. It's a major advantage, particularly when one of the sides is often an interstate one. Doesn't mean it's a given though.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
