He came to the club with a head full of hair, he left with not much if any on top.

Good luck Mathew in what ever you have planned for life after footy.

Thanks Nicksy, great career with us. I really hope he stays around the club in some way or form as he is well respected by the players.

Nicksy, thanks for the excitement on the field and the laughs off. There have been recent times when you came back into the team after injury and steadied the whole ship - it showed and we loved it.

As I posted recently, I think you really have the makings of a very successful media career. And I hope mere retirement doesn't stop you from hosting the aftermatches at the X - we're expecting you (and the hordes of players) after the Roos game.

And, personally, thanks for getting us drinks when Goodsy's chair restricted my bar access at Trivia last year. And RWO still won! We'll miss seeing you play but hope we'll still have you as an integral part of the club for years to come.

Many won't clearly recall his best years, when as a half back he provided great drive and delivery to Plugger and co... much like #17 today.

Was a SA state squad member and ripped off by Cornes in not getting a game. If he had played for the Crows he would have been in SA's starting side without a shadow of a doubt.

                    Good luck Nicks.

Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

Thanks Nicks and all the best. I'll never forget a few years ago when you and Nic Fosdike came to the school I was teaching at (Seven Hills High School) to speak to all of year 8. It was a pretty tough school and the students were really awful and rude - asking such things as "where is Plugger? are you a bench warmer?" etc as well as general yelling out, talking, rude gestures etc. Both Nicks and Fosdike handled themselves and the kids very well. I was very impressed.
P.S. When they asked who had seen a game of AFL live I was the only one who replied.

In his time he was my favourite kick of the footy.

                        Good luck Nicksy.

Nothing to do with the great man Nicksy, I just think they were pi*sed off that they got Fosdike.

yes certainly a great contributor to our club over the last few years and i really hope he can stay involved with the Swans - which is what he said on announcing his retirement. thanx so much Nicksy for lots of great memories - perhaps my favourite was keeping Matera goal-less and virtually kickless in last year's final. It makes it easy to support the club when we've had such good players who have also been top personalities. If they were a bunch of idiots it wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun.

I just hope he can check out redandwhiteonline and see all the nice things people are saying about him!

Great career by Nicksy - he was a fairly skilful player who did the best he could with his fragile body.

IIRC he missed at least 18 months when he came to the Swans due to a very bad broken leg.

175 games - well done Matthew.

BTW if in Melb - listen to 3AW - he is on in about 2 mins (web too I suppose - www.3aw.com.au).

Thanks for a very watchable career Nicksy and all the best for the future. I'll never forget the job on the hapless Phil Matera!
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
