I give you... The Sydney Crowd!!!

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Vicky Pollard: Oh my god I so can't believe you just said that this is like the time I threw Anita's nokia in the canal as a joke and she's like you have well got to buy me another one and I'm like get over it and then Paul came over who's adopted anyway and started saying that I fancy Mark Bennett but oh my god just because I have sex with someone doesn't mean I fancy them.

Geez, four pages over this. The crowd continued what they were doing during a break in play and then clapped Lappin off - stop the presses! Anyone notice the "Power" chant whilst Hudson was lying on the ground waiting for the stretcher at AAMI? That was followed by what appeared to be no Power supporters clapping him off. Where are the complaints about that on BF or in the papers?

The wave had nothing to do with Lappin as has been mentioned over and over. Sure, it looked bad but complain about channel 9 not explaining it - the Sydney crowd did nothing wrong.

As a victorian based swans supporter I obviously had to watch the game from home, I didn't find the wave disrespectful at all in fact I thought it was quite amusing. If supporters don't clap an injured opposition player off the field then thats a different story, but from what I saw on TV most supporters did.

As for the posters on here that seem to think Melbourne based supporters are so concerned about the traditions of the game that we dissaprove of anything foreign, this couldn't be any further from the truth. Personally, I don't have any problem with the mexican wave at the football and if it makes the game seem more attractive to the sydney market then so be it. I especially love the soccer style Syd-ney chant that started late 96 and is now employed by the melbourne supporters as well.

To be honest I didn't think twice about the wave until I saw this post, I do however find it amusing that although it seemed like pretty much everyone at the ground was doing it, some people on here are trying to point the finger at who started it.

Its just a fun past time for people trying to enjoy themselves at the football. Get over it!

A lot of the problem seems to be the result of how channel 9 broadcast it. I didn't see the wave until Lappin had broken his leg and the TV audience was aware of how serious it was and naturally it did appear very disrespectful. Also it only seemed that only a few people clapped him off. My initial reaction to the whole thing was asking my husband if he still wanted to move back to Sydney! Even if it wasn't malicious it did show Sydney fans in a bad light. Just read what they are saying on Bigfooty. It has simply given the anti Sydney people more ammunition and more importantly turned off a lot of neutral supporters (which we might need in the event of an all interstate grand final - here's hoping).

I heard the wave start 5 minutes before Lappin was injured. Maybe its becasue i had the surround sound on and i could pick up everything. I nodded my head in disbelief when i could hear the crowd cheering and their was a stoppage in play. At first i thought Baz had hit one of the scott brothers, then i thought it was streaker but then i saw the crowd in the background jump and down. Straight away I knew it was the wave.

The wave picked up a lot seconds before the lappin injury and was still going around when he hit the deck. The smartarse producer in the broadcast box decided to then show the wave going around while lappin was being seen to by the trainers thus giving the impression it started after lappin went down. I am sure had it been a closer affair there would not have been a wave and more a stunned silence.

I also heard loud and clear the clapping when he was strechered off and thought to myself "Phew".

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
