      At least he's not predictable.

Who are these "top-flight outside midfielders" that a club is prepared to get relinquish, who is also prepared to come to Sin City, who is capable of slotting into the Swan Culture, who is good enough to justify casting away existing talent?

I can't think of one who is ready to go. Who is it?

Far as I know, we have made our investment in youth and it's developing. We get another pic in November/December 2005 and I hope we get pic number 19 if that means we're premiers.

What are some of you guys and gals going to moan about if we win a flag? Hang-overs I hope!

No. It's a theoretical discussion. Given we can never know who might come up (and we can't influence it anyway) it's always a theoretical discussion.

I'm simply theorising that swapping J Bolton for an outside midfielder may be a good trade. An example - Joel Corey from Geelong. Good skills, quick and can add a lot of drive. Geelong could do with an inside midfielder. Both teams could benefit.

Far as I know, we have made our investment in youth and it's developing.
Sure. But trading one 25yo for another is hardly going to impact the yough policy.

          As does everyone.

So when did a simple comment theorising on potential trades become a moan?

WTF are you all talking about trades for?
The season isn't over, we're not Collingwood, Hawthorn, Carlton or Essendon FFS.
There's still up to six weeks to go this year so how about everyone forget about 2006 and concentrate your energy on getting the 2005 squad to make something out of 2005.

I'll talk on this AFTER 2005 is over, thankyou.

There's my bitch for the week.

I think I understand what Wil is trying to say.

Whilst Bolton and O'Keefe are good contributers in our side, perhaps they aren't as vital that we will miss them if they are out (see Bolton whilst he was out, we did fine...).

So perhaps replacing these two players with another two players that better service our 'needs'.

Such as a goal kicking outside midfielder to replace Bolton.

Perhaps we have that talent already developed within, but that is yet to be seen.

I personally would be reluctant to send Bolton packing considering Williams and Maxfield are in the twilight of their careers, and a replacement for Williams would be a better food for thought.

Talk of anything more than pick 5 for O'Keefe is absolute garbage.

As the game plan currently stands, he is the most (or one of the most) critically important players in the side as he provides the perfect decoy CHF (he is quick and great overhead) which allows Bazza to play closer to goal where he is infinitly more dangerous in his current form.

It is no coincidence that the increase in O'Keefe's form has resulted in the coming together of our game plan and the increase in output of the forward.

So while he alone is not worth a top 5 pick, his worth to the team structure and game plan is to the team at this time.

I think everyone understands what Wil is trying to say - they just don't agree. Looking at his Saddington for Judd comments I'd suggest that he may not understand what everyone else is trying to say though - because no-one has suggested anything remotely like that.

Whilst Bolton and O'Keefe are good contributers in our side, perhaps they aren't as vital that we will miss them if they are out (see Bolton whilst he was out, we did fine...).
Disagree. The fact that we won without Bolton doesn't mean that his impact on the side is negligible. We were in form when we won those games. As Liz suggested, we weren't in form early in the season but still won more than we lost. A lot of credit during those matches can go to Bolton because he was probably our best player during that period.

So perhaps replacing these two players with another two players that better service our 'needs'.
Losing those players would weaken our side. So, lets say we could trade O'Keefe for a decent receiver, we might deliver the ball into the forward 50 a bit better but the quality of player on the end of it will be, on average, worse. So, our team is not definitely going to be advantaged.

Take NMW's example. Corey is a good player but giving up a guy who is 6th in the league for clearances and replacing him with a reciver is not definitely going to help. We would clear the ball less often and it doesn't matter how good the outside midfielders are if the inside ones can't get them the ball.

Unless, as Liz suggested, a Judd is available, which he isn't, there is no point in trading your best players. The way to do it is to look at the list and say "OK, Saddington, Fosdike, and a couple of others are expendable". "Who would want them and do they have an excess of outside midfielders". Now, Geelong could actually do with a tall that can kick but they might not be interested however an offer of Saddo plus pick 19 for Corey may interest them. Alternatively, the Bulldogs need about 8 talls and we know their coach likes Saddo so what if we offer him for one of their receivers - with a pick if needed.

I'm not sure if anyone has ever built a team that has won a flag by trading their best players. These days it's less likely - and not needed because teams like Hawthorn, Carlton, Collingwood and a couple of others will trade for draft picks.

                    Anyway, that's my opinion.
