Resting Players

Hadnt thought about that, but it is an excellent point. Increase our depth a tiny amount.
As for Hawthorn losing to keep the draft picks, well the club may want to do that , as well as the supporters, but the players and coach wouldnt. If you were a player at a club that has had a terrible year, and has promised to be axing players, woudlnt you be playing for your career?
Also raises the spectre of players form the "talkers" going in hard as it is the last game for the season...

You don't mess with a winning formula. However, Roos showed last week that he is prepared to give the "stars" an easier run if it can be managed.

The plus side with this would be that first of all they woudl be rested before having to travel interstate. Second it would allow a send off game for a few players (Schuable perhaps?) and it woudl also allow S Maxfield a chance for some senior game time.

The idea has spirit but not great Karma. As Dennis says, "never moon a werewolf".

Port did in 2003 and it all ended in tears! Remember the rested players, the banning of the team song and all the rest of the theatrics? No thanks, Sydney aren't that kind of team.

Being potentially humbled by Hawthorn in the last round of the H&A ain't a great entree to a trip to Subi.

Which raises the philosophical question - If a cow streaks and nobody sees, did it really happen?


Getting back on-topic - I am against this idea totally. Pulling of key players to rest them is a recipe for disaster.

Maybe rotate a few of the fringe players but not the core.

More bench time maybe for the core players as we saw in Q4 on Sunday. It was good to see us still dominating despite Kirk, Ablett, Hall and O'Loughlin on the bench.

Exactly. I wouldn't mind us giving a couple of guys a run like Willoughby, Schmidt or one of the talls on the Rookie List but only as replacements for the fringe players in the 22. Resting important players could see them go off the boil. Injuries are a danger but it's a risk we have to take every week.

Short memory, must have a ...

Sydney's finals hopes received a body blow when star forward O'Loughlin limped from the ground three minutes from full-time with what could be a season-ending hamstring injury.

An MRI scan tomorrow will reveal the full extent of the injury to O'Loughlin's right leg - the only blight on the game for the Swans - and coach Paul Roos was keen to put a positive spin on the injury, saying he was hopeful O'Loughlin might have only cramped the muscle as he did in 2000.

On that day, Roos said it looked like O'Loughlin went down after being shot from the stands by a sniper.

" . . . I suppose my immediate reaction is he's not going to play next week. I don't remember the incident but it was basically exactly the same incident when Mick looked like he had been shot from the grandstand (in 2000) and it turned out he played the next week," Roos said. "I'm hoping the same sniper's turned up today."

After starting the season slowly because of tendonitis on his right knee, O'Loughlin has been in fine touch lately playing in a true full-forward role with Barry Hall pushed up the ground to rove the half-forward arc.

Its not often that I agree with NMW but I do on this occasion. Maybe rest some players for longer periods on the bench eg MOL. Roos did this on Sunday when he rested Bazza and MOL for much of the last quarter.

Mickey's the one I worry about most simply because he's so injury prone. 2003 could have had a much happier ending had he not been snipered in the last 5mins of the H&A season.

After our one point victory against the Pies we played Richmond. Who looked the fresher / more ready to play team in the first half?
