Of course if we win by 20 goals, Bazza kicks 11 and wins the Coleman, and we successfully work out a good strategy for the MCG...

I'm all for rest, but unless there are clear cut injuries or concerns of injuries, lets keep the players honed and hungry.

      Make no changes to anything.
Every team is capable of sneaking up on any given day and Hawthorn is no different.
Remember, Sydney def Essendon by 20 points and a week later Hawthorn def Essendon by 14 points.
That's a bit close for comfort.
However, why is anyone looking past this week and a game that can still get us third spot if we win, but will leave us vulnerable to fifth if we lose.
St Kilda goes to Perth this week and if they lose that and we win, we're third.
Third spot, Adelaide at Footy Park, win that and we wouldn't have to worry about Subiaco at all.
      That's what I'm hoping for.
But lets beat the Kangaroos first.

I'm definately not for this. We need the best up and firing no matter who is the opposition.

Our rotation of midfielders through the bench made we wonder this- does anyone have stats on minutes played per game for the season? Kirky, in particular, seems to spend a lot of time off the field taking a breather and is ranked 21 in the AFL for total disposals with 434 and first in tackles with 107; 21.7 disposals and 5.4 tackles per game. I'd love to know how he ranks against the other guys in that top bracket of ball winners as far as actual time on ground goes. A relatively new stat in basketball that I quite like is "points/rebounds/assists/whatever you can measure per 48 minutes" so it gives you a chance to get a rough idea quickly of how a player getting little game time compares to someone playing a lot of game time, obviously it is easy to be great in tiny amounts compared to longer periods, but still an interesting stat. Is there an Internet available/free site that holds the average minutes played for an AFL player? Or even just the total minutes?

Don't rest anyone. Look what happened when the whole team was rested - they couldn't get the momentum back and barely beat Collingwood and then lost to Richmond.

The only place I've seen TOG is in the HSun (hard copy only).

I feared as much, but at least it means I can make wild claims without them being easily disproven.

Kirky picks up more disposals and tackles than anyone else in the competition based on minutes played!

Now I'm okay unless somebody asks me for the source!

                              Tackles easily.

                              Not sure on disposals.

Other teams run rotations a fair bit too, so West, Hodge, Cross, and Hayes for example would possibly beat Kirk or be very close anyway.

                                They certainly do.

Some quick calculations of the total disposals + tackles to find major midfield movers and shakers gave (there might be others that swoop in and overtake these, I simply didn't bother checking)
                                Code:
                                Player Team	Total
                                Scott West	WB	629
                                Daniel Cross	WB	602
                                Lenny Hayes	SK	581
                                Luke Hodge	HW	579
                                Brett Kirk	SY	541
                                Luke Ball	SK	535
West probably has the biggest reliance on the one stat (disposals) but for such a major ball winner is still averaging over a couple a game of tackles a game which isn't too bad.
