    Swans Memorable Moments

After the farcical and cynical AFL Memorable Moments including a "moment" that is actually three years of footy, I would like to list (in no order), my Swans magical moments. I would love to be reminded of others too or corrected on foggy details, so please add your 2c.

    1. Filandia* getting piggybacked trying to tackle
    2. The release of the pig onto the ground
    3. Nicks shirtfronting Hardwick and then giving him a spray
    4. Cook shirtfronting Sinclair
    5. Kirk getting cleaned up by Pickett and leaping straight back up
    6. The behind by Plugger that got us into the GF
    7. Moose Henwood having a man stand the mark over his prone body, standing up and lifting the man on the mark into the air
    8. Plugger breaks the record
    9. The media apology to the Swans
    10. Plugger giving the Sydney crowd the fist (before he joined us, naturally)
    11. Goodes winning the Brownlow
    12. Beating Richmond by a point round 21, 2000

For some reason most of the moments are from the mid 90's on. I blame beer but also probably the poor number of broadcasts I saw in that era. Apologies to Kickett and Capper particularly.

    *It was Filandia, right?!?

Rd 22 v WCE - we won the minor premiership and the Syyyyyyyyyydney chant was born

Cressa's acting job to get a free on the siren and goal to win in Dunks' 200th

Rd 4 1999 v North where we came back from 40pts down at halftime to win, on the back of inspirational play from Paul Kelly

Cressa knocking his dislocated kneecap back in on the wing at Kardinia Park

Paul Kelly's speccy in the game where he made his surprise comeback from injury against Freo at Subi

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Yep!! On Stewie Loewe. The ump was laughing as he awarded the free for the high tackle. I don't think Stewie even noticed.

Beg to differ. Unless Pete actually did it more than once (I could believe it!!!), it was Matthew Primus, at the Randwick end.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

              1. Port Win against the odds where Cressa showed his shirt to the crowd.
              2. Plugger's famous Point
              3. Dunks and Kells say farewell after the win against Richmond.
              4. Plugger 1300th
              5. Robbie Ahmat's wonderful length of the field goal (Still love ya Robbie!)
              6. Leo Barry's mark against the Roos in 02

That's all in my memory bank atm.

Perhaps the most amazing thing I've ever seen in one of the gretest Swans games ever! I wish I'd been there.

I still remember the near silence as the crowd (haha) as we began to realise we weren't applauding the occasional effort but that we might actually win.

Much to my regret I only saw it on TV.

All wonderfull moments, to which I should like to add . . .

John Ironmonger's tackle on Collingwoods Graham Wright in 1986(?). The Magpie leapt up at Big John, who caught him in mid air and back-slammed him into the ground. It was pobably the most devestating tackle of all time.

Does anyone else recall it, or is it a Ruckman thing?

That was a good one too, it gave one goosepimples (above and beyond those produced by the wind, rain and cold).

                            Everything mentioned above.

                            1996:
Rd 22, persistently raining. Close game v Eagles. Last quarter, PK gets the ball in the back pocket and scrubs a kick about 30 metres forward, still in the back 50. Even though he's just kicked it, he runs like the bejeezers and is actually the first bloke to the ball, and dives and manages to punch it a further 20m forward. Inspirational.
Game v Carlton at PP...close all day and carlton got to 10pts up in the last qr, and hadn't been beaten there for about two years. Ball coming out of our forward line and goes to a contest in the square. Campo (I think) has best position and goes to soccer the ball forward, but somehow PK traps it perfectly, handballs to Roos, who slots it to Obie who goals. Shiver down the spine stuff.
Shannon Grant, vs Essendon in the tied game when we came back from nowhere...took a mark on the wing, did a blind turn/duck as a bomber came up to him, ran 20m and kicked it laces out to Plugger, who goaled.
The 1st final against Hawks: Cressa's mark over Holland and Maxy's goal.
Beating Essendon the following year by a point...the ball carrying the back of the pack in the final minute and Bayes being at the drop and toe-poking it in. (Bewick missing a dolly!!)
Beating the pies at the MCG - Plugger kicking 9 on one leg, Dunkers towelling up Sav and sending him to the ruck.
2003, Goodesy grabbing the ball out of the ruck, baulking a couple of Saints and slotting one through from 50. He then jogged back to contest the next hit out.

1986, SCG: ball goes to a contest with two opposition players and David Murphy. It looks like Murphy has been totally sandwiched, but he somehow spins out of the pack untouched and slots a huge sausage.
1987: Those three weeks when we hit 200pts plus: Richmond, WCE and Essendon. I have yet to see ANY team play better or in better form, ever. EVER. Three weeks worth of training drills.

                            Bloody Hafey.

Yup, Filandia on Primus, R16?, 1998. This game is memorable for two other events:

                              1) This is the game that PK did his knee (bad memory) thereby signalling the start of the end of a brilliant career.

                              2) Plugger's inspirational 3rd quarter (in respect of his injured mate PK) where he kicked 5 straight, I think, most from around or outside the 50, to turn a close game around against the Power.
