    Farewell to arms?

I know Barry has mentioned it in another thread but I think this is worth a thread of its own.
It looks as if Andrew Schauble's time is up. If that's so, let him have a last game next Saturday so the fans can farewell him properly. (The possibility of resting Leaping Leo would be a possible bonus, before he becomes Battered Barry.)
Schauble has been a good player in his time and a very important member of the back six for the last few seasons. I know that finals football is no place for sentiment so unless he wants to play in the twos next year next week is the last opportunity to recognise his worth to us. He wouldn't let us down.
And remember it's Schauble - a before u, just like Australia!
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

He kicked 5 today in the Magoos.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

      In: Schauble
      Out: Vogels

Tough on Voges - but Schaubes deserves this one last chance.

You've shortchanged him. He kicked 6 including 4 in a row in the 3rd quarter. He looked very sharp today.

If I was to bring in Schauble than this would be my change to the team to get him in as well. While Vogels is certainly playing well and has more pace to burn than Schauble, you never know that come September the extra body on body expirence that Schauble has might come in very handy if Leo goes down early in a match or gets well beaten and a change needs to be made.

          Still hard decision to make.

Right you are, he did kick 6 (maybe a poster too?) and yes he did look good out there today.

Schaubs is being groomed as a shock forward weapon for the finals

Would love to see in him back in the seniors, but I feel Vogels has done enough to warrant his selection.

All depends on whether Roosy likes them young or expirenced I guess.

The bigger question however has to be, who drops out IF Maxfield comes back into the side???

Too many changes to the side could rock the boat too much and ruin the teams run to September success.

Surely Maxfield is not a serious contender after today's effort. You cannot drop an in form player for an unfit experienced player.

Only have him there in case of real emergency.

His disposal was quite ordinary today, and with the way the midfield is going I doubt he would be selected for the finals.

You would hope not, but you never know with this club. Anything could happen and I could just see it happening and ruining all the good work.

He is obviously playing well, so why would he be gone next season?? He had some serious injury and fitness problems for the last two years, so the coaching staff is making sure they get him back the right way this time around.

I think he will continue to play next year and on into the future. Any list needs depth, and in a team that has minimal injuries, a LOT of good players will continually be on the outer. However, if we suddenly suffer some serious injuries over the course of the finals, its the depth of the list that determines whether we can hold our course. To this end, we need to hang on to Schauba and other players in his position. He's only 27 for goodness sake.

I think Schabs might play this week. Thats his real last chance.
Named emergency this week, BOG in the 2's. Bit of a travesty if he isnt given a game now, especially with top 4 decided, and our fate as to who we meet in the first final out of our hands.

The problem is that the Hawks don't have a very tall forward line. I think Leo could take Croad quite easily and B2 would cover any of Franklin/Roughead/Dixon. LRT could take the resting ruckman. Schauble for Vogels would be the logical swap, but it would be very harsh on Vogels.
