But why would you meddle with a structure that's working as well as it is right now?" So I replied "that sounds like he's unlikely to play?" and he responded "I don't like closed statements."

Injuries - we've got a lot of players waiting in the wings. No injuries - you saw our team today. Very good structure and skills, so why not?
Thanks for asking him and reporting it here. The silence from the club about why Schauble wasnt playing was frustrating and lending itself to much speculation.

I definately think we should rest a couple of players with niggling injuries.

Bring Schauble in for Leapin Leo (deserves a rest for taking the ogres from opposition teams each week), Saddington in for Ball (cork today) and perhaps McVeigh for MOL (give the knees and rest that hammy!).

Start Barry Hall on the bench and use him in patches. I'd prefer to lose and cop no new injuries, rather than win and lose some key players through injury.

I agree that Schauble needs a game with the firsts prior to the finals in case he needs to be called up.

          Tough on Voges

Sanity will prevail and Roos & Co shall not sacrifice Voges for Schaubs.

Shaubs looked tight in the Ressies today, but I really don't think substituting him for Voges is the correct move. We are all forgetting the rookie won the Hampden League's B&F last year at HB. He's our pinch hitter.**

Vogels just needs to back himself before his first touch of the ball, and not always look toward BBBBBH as his first option. He has been doing that far less of late as his minutes per game continues to rise, and it shows. He plays with a Kennelly-like bossiness that's great to watch, especially when he's directing blokes like MOL and Goodesy.

**And before you all go and crucify me, I do understand there is a difference between AFL and Victorian country footy. My point is that he's able to do it. What's more, he's good at it. Schaubs can also be utilised up forward, though my money is on Voges. He's got the spark.
And you can't find nothing at all,
If there was nothing there all along.

From what I heard on the radio last night, Kosi will be lucky to get back on the ground this year. Reoccurence of a soft tissue injury, which he struggled to get over last time.

Do you expect the club to report to us, their reasons why any player is not playing seniors?

It wouldn't be unheard of. The way Hawthorn approached the Holland situation, for example, by allowing the media to be made aware that the reason for his lack of inclusion was based on age and not on form or any other matters at least stopped innuendo on why he was not in the team plus allowed him to go through his final season with a degree of dignity (in respect to people knowing it was not his form that was excluding him from selection).
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

True, but maybe it is a Melb/Syd media thing. Maybe the Melb Media hounded, the Hawks, whereas Syd are a bit more removed from that scrutiny.

I a big fan of Schaubs but the Roo's big forwards didn't smash us yesterday.

LRT was the obvious target to replace however, the persistence the coaching team has showed is paying dividends - bigger very week.

Vogels and Schaubs look to be similiar players. I don't know about Vogels' defensive work but Schaubs loves a goal. Classic young bloke V experience decision.

The depth we have in our reserves is keeping the first 22 honest without the over the top pressure that comes from the fear of being dropped if you make a stuff up.

It's a tough one, but I wouldn't be questioning the selection decisions with the on field success we have been seeing...

No, I dont expect it however given Schauble's experience and current form in the reserves, as well as the fact that a lot of people are asking why he isnt playing, I dont think that it would have been amiss for some comment from the coach about it.

Vogels has made some sort of impact twice this season. The first was for ten minutes in the Bulldogs match, which luckily for us turned out to be the right ten minutes.

The other was yesterday, when he had a few touches and moved well. But then, 21 other playes had fair-to-brilliant games yesterday.

This isn't a criticism of Vogels - certainly not, I like what I see and it's normal for young players to float in and out of games - but he is not clearly a better option than Schauble come finals time.

As GS found out, the coach doesn't give much away.

In the absence of an injury or suspension, we won't see Schuabs back this season I'm afraid. Roos has made clear (at least as clear as he makes anything to be honest) that this is his best 20 at this point in time.

And it's pretty difficult to argue against that given recent results.

Ball's corky may represent his best chance but even then I suspect not.

I disagree Charlie. Schauble is a natural defender. It would be impossible for him to reinvent himself as a forward this late in his career. He is playing forward in the 2's because that is the only way for him to get a touch on the football. With the way we are going about in the 2's, playing him in the defence would have the same impact as playing him on the bench.

What Vogels offers us is something different. He could offer a tall option cross the half forward line which we need in bigger grounds, a kind of decoy for O'Keefe. Schauble would not be able to do so. His agility and pace would be found out anywhere not close to the goal square.

Having said that, I would not mind to see him playing in place of Barry this week. Leo definitely deserves a rest to freshen up for the final charge.

Erm... in the past few weeks, we've shown a great deal of potency up forward, but a dangerous vulnerability to a strong key forward (Gehrig and Lloyd in particular).

Vogels is a pinch hitter in a role where we have an abundance of options. Schauble is a KPP in a role where we are at risk of being caught short.
