I just checked Sportsbet online and they're paying Sydney $1.19. Its almost too good an offer ... except that I am such a gutless gambler

How pople have short memories (or they are blocking them). Just two years ago the Swans played 2 very important games at home to secure 2nd spot on the ladder and they blew it. Does anybody still remember who were those two teams the Swans were playing against? Collingwood and Hawthorn. Although this is now a bit dfferent situation in relaton to the finals, I remember clearly how everybody was so certain of Swans' win and how disappointed everbody was after they lost. This game might not have any impact on the finals outcome, but it might dent into th player's confidence, hence they have to keep winning.
Don't underestimate the Hawks, they won't go down as willingly as we think.

Do you mean the R19 game against the Hawks in 2003. The game after the Team of the Century presentation? Do you reckon we were thinking of 1st or 2nd at that stage? I thought even our top 4 wasn't decided until the last game was played in R22?

Still, the Hawks sliced and diced us that night at the SCG. I had two feral Dawks yelling abuse at Baz as St Kilda's hack and thug near me.

OK, then let m ere-fresh your memory.
Swans were in 2nd spot after Round 17 and loosing afterwards to Adelaide in R18 at AAMI stadium by 4 points and to Hawthorn in R19 (everybody was sure Swans would win this one and were embarassed in front of the team of the century), only to win over the Lions in 20, which placed them equally with Adelaide, Collingwood, etc with 52 ponts in 2nd to 6th spot only to loose again to Collingwood in 21, which brings us to my comment about blowing their chances for the second spot.
My main point was, when we had the highest expectations from the team they failed to deliver. I might be harsh here, but that s how I felt at the time.
This year is different. So far they haven't failed when it got to the crunch (inspite of the terrible start to the season) and I hope they'll keep it that way.

Winners are grinners, and losers can go please themselves.

Nothing short of that will please the boys this weekend, and a run on the MCG to fine tune our structures is the perfect thing to do pre-finals.

We can't underestimate the Hawks. They have some great players in that team and only their game plan suffers when some youngsters struggle at this time of year.

They won't tank it. Do you think they do weights each week with the view of lifting less than the week before. It's not in the nature of competitive sportsmen.

What is in the nature of your average AFL team is that Round 22 for a team that won't make the finals is that it gets in the way of Mad Monday and EOST plans.

I am hoping Croady, Budweiser Miller, Joel, Dicko, Johno and all the rest are keen as mustard to just get the thing over and done with. Lets face it, they think they're playing a team in extremely good form and can't be bothered rating themselves deep down in their own subconscious.

Come on Hawkers, no one wants to head off to Vegas with a broken collar bone so keep your footy uncontested, don't bother trying to win the ball, just wait for the kick ins.

                  Cheers

i agree with TheHood. The hawks have some players that have the ability to break a game open. We must shut down hodge and crawford.

Having said that, i feel that the swans will win by a very convincing margin!

Im glad that the game is at the MCG.

We've only had one game there this year and we lost to Richmond by a point.

Will give the guys some footy there four weeks before we are back again.

Perfect. Hawks have no chance. Wonder what odds they're paying on this one? Even at $1.05 it would almost be worth putting my house on it. Lay a bet of $100,000 to collect an easy $5,000. That'd pay for an away trip the following week flying business and staying 5*!
As a punter, I got on the Swans 4 weeks ago to continue the pattern of the past 15 weeks which is WWWLWWWLWWWLWWW. I'm riding an accumulator on this pattern, which will pay I reckon 80/1 when we win the GF.

So this pattern means the Swans will lose this weekend, and I must continue with that conviction. I'm happy to do so, as it also means we will win the GF.

On the other side, I'll still be hoping the guys get up on Satdee. I've just sinoly found the win/loss run intriguing this year. It has destiny written all over it.
