    Hall Mr 26%

Barry Hall has kicked the highest % (26 of his team's goals) of all forwards of the likely finals combatants. Robbo of Melbourne is next highest at 21%. When analysing forwards in terms of effective kicks, marks, goal assists etc., Hall is ranked 2nd behind Pavlich with Tredrea coming 3rd. Source - Graeme Bond.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Does that mean we are relying too much on Baz? Should we be sharing it around a bit more, or does it mean we have a solid target up front?

      Not sure what to think.

I've never understood why people say things like "do sydney rely on hall too much?" He's a champion player, so of course we go to him on most occasions, it's not a matter of the other forwards not being good enough, it just makes sense to play to your strengths. If Hall is out of the team we're going to struggle but theres no point weening the rest of the team off him in case of injury.

            Exactly.

Why have a Focal point if you are not going to kick the ball to him.

Has anyone done this sort of analysis on say Dunstall, or Carey, or Ablett, or Lockett?

I thought the job of a classy forward was to get the ball as much as possible. And a champion forward did it successfully even though every man, woman, kid and dog at the ground knew the team would be trying to get it to him. No?

Hally was double teamed by the Kangas last week....so Davis kicks 5 and has Archer moved onto him.

Of course we rely on a big bodied accurate kick for goal. So as long as he's in the mix the other forwards have shown there's more than one avenue to goal.

Like most stats it needs to be considered in context. Is it high because Hall is kicking a lot of goals or because no one else is kicking enough. Earlier in the season it may have been the latter but it has slowly shifted more to the former.

If the average goals per game for the size is good and the leading goalscorer has a decent proportion, that's normally a good sign. As I recall, during Essendon's dominant years Lloyd made up 25-30% of their goals.

It's just an indication that Baz is one of the best players in the AFL.

It is a myth that Sydney relies too much on Hall.

Use last week as an example - first four goals kicked by four different players (O'loughlin, Davis, Hall, O'Keefe).

That is a very good sign.

You need a dominant forward for a flag:
Lynch, Brown, Tredrea, Lloyd, Carey to name the most recent ones.

                      This is a good thing.
