Yeah it sucks heaps. I was yelling as much as anyone. But that can happen in football and if we had made the most of our opportunities earlier, the worst umpiring decisions would have made no difference.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

The logic of playing such a flawless game that umpires stuff ups have little effect is a crock.
What if both teams had not made one error all game, scores were level, but an incorrect call on the final siren gave a team a shot at goal and they won?
The simple fact is that the umpiring should have absolutely NO effect on the outcome of a game. It had a profound effect on Fri night, you'd be kidding yourself to think otherwise, and people are entitled to complain as much as they want.
It sure as hell beats kicking a door in.

Originally posted by Sean West Coast made errors as well - they actually missed more kickable goals than us. However, they didn't have to win in spite of the umpires. That's the problem and the whinging is completely justified.
Most people have been critical of our players and yes we could have still won but we shouldn't have had to.
I seriosly doubt that they missed more kickable goals than we did. I shall review the tape.
WCE only had four more scoring shots - and we know at least four were from questionable free kicks.
Schneider also missed a sitter in front - OOBOTF.
Embley had a poster - so did Googes.

After Friday night it wasnt a door I wanted to kick. But failing that venting our frustration in this forum will have to do.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC
Originally posted by anne Distressing as the incident was, what galls me more is that Sydney just passively accept it and do nothing. I know an official complaint won't change anything and may well cost money but the "subconscious" results are tangible. After Hird's outburst and Thomas's both those teams got very favourable, overly fair umpiring.
You mean like the 5 goals Freo got from dodgy free kicks the week after the Grant Thomas outburst??
Roosy knows what he's doing keeping his mouth shut
of course we're gonna have a whinge about it just after it happened - its not as if there was nothing on the line
if the same thing happened to the eagles and that was matera getting tripped they would have ripped the place to pieces and i reckon they would have whinged even more than us
those wc pricks now get a week off to freshen up whilst we have to back up again this week. i have calmed down alot since friday night and realised that we had opportunities missed and so did they. but what annoys me is we were 9 points up when stenglein got the free and it changed the whole game plain and simple. the crowd got involved and the rest is history
major ramifications - what if this happened in a tight last qtr grand final

Funny thing is that the game on Saturday night between Adelaide and St Kilds was in the exact same position as ours.
The Crows were pushing early with the crowd support, both teams were making mistakes, but the difference was the umpires did not change the course of the match and St Kilda were able to hang on.

P.S The other annoying part was that we should have been playing Adelaide not West Coast and we could have rolled them without the Roo.
"Looking forward to a rebuilt, new, fast and exciting Swans model in 2010"
Port Adelaide thumping Kangaroos was a good sight for me.
Laidley's face was a picture.
I believe we will win next week and go on to meet St Kilda at the MCG and hopefully have decent umpires who owe us and give us a decent go even if we are from interstate.
Of all the games on the weekend I come out feeling we have a lot to give as a team this year yet. The team will pick themselves up and get on with it - Geelong thumped Melbourne who only scraped in and didn't challenge and tackle like our team does.

Absolutely spot on! Unlike you Punter257 I have not calmed down. All I have encountered in Perth this weekend are patronising WCE supporters saying "What an exciting game it was!".
I wasn't/am nott excited. I am gutted. I agree with a lot of the postings here about missed opportunities etc. But there is no denying the influence a 40,000 plus crowd has on the psyche of an umpire. As punter 257 said if it had been Matera legged there would have been 10,000 screaming, vein popping wce supporters telling the ump it was a free - and it most certainly would have been given.
In fact on this mornings Channel 7 sport roundup David Schwarz identified a third umpiring faux pas which contributed to the loss. Umpy bounced the ball on the wing . It completely missed the ruckmen skewing 10 metres to the WC side straight to Judd who kicked to the 50, Sampi gathers, winning goal!.
Schwarz said the ump should have called the ball back because of the erratic bounce which unduly favoured the WC.
I was sitting as was P 257 near where the swans and the umpires walked off. The WCE had the nerve to boo the umpires!

I don't know if people complain every week but in some ways they would be justified. As you know, the treatment of our forward line in general and Hall in particular is pretty ridiculous and the worst thing is that it's not a recent thing - anyone remember Plugger getting 4 frees in a whole season?
It's not suprising that Swans fans get a bit frustrated - and events like Friday certainly make it worse.

They kicked four more behinds than us and I seem to recall three of those being from set shots that were pretty much in front - Matera and Sampi come to mind and I'm sure there was at least one other. Could be wrong though - haven't been able to watch the replay yet
