Okay then, who will be 2005 premiers?

There's been a lot of talk saying, "We're gawwwwwn." Obviously, then, the question is: If not us, who?

Adel: Gun defense, good midfield, poor forwards
St Kilda: Gun forwards, Good midfield, poor defense.

For my money, the above comment absolutely nailed it. Everyone has been saying that Kerr, Judd, Fletcher, Cousins are a class above our midfielders, Hall had a shocker and Sydney noticeably lacked a ball player who could grab the game by the scruff of the neck and win it by his own talent. All of that is true... and yet we were (for mine) clearly the better team on the night. That has to be some recommendation for the strength of our team game.

Having looked closely at the 2 games that mattered this weekend (no disrespect to Port, but going all the way is beyond them), I agree that whoever wins the premiership this year will be a team with notable deficiencies.

Adelaide and Sydney consistently get the best out of themselves; WCE are more up-and-down, but even when they're up, their forward line is less than imposing.

Adelaide work hard enough to do it, but due to the (ahem) sheer lack of goal-kicking talent, it would be a turn-up; based on Friday night's performance, I would be absolutely shocked if WCE played well enough to win a GF in Melbourne.

So that leaves us and St Kilda.

When on song, St K is the best team in the comp by a fair margin. The beauty is that when things do start going against them, they can drop their heads (still having some level of mental frailty, not to mention defensive frailty) and it's possible to punish them. It's not only injuries that led to a team this talented losing 9 matches this year. Adelaide's fatal flaw on Sat night was to dominate them for a quarter-and-a-half, and only kick 3 goals the whole time. They have to be hurt harder than that, because with their midfielders and forward line, a 3 goal margin is just a few minutes' work.

Of course they'll be massive favourites to win their Prelim. But, if we make it, is it possible for us to beat them when no-one gives us the slightest chance? You bet. See, for example, R11 2004.

It's true, though, that the cream rises to the top in finals. You need a champion to step up when everything hangs in the balance. We have 3 players in the forward line who are capable of singlehandedly swinging a game, but we have only one man who runs around the body of the ground who can do it. For Sydney to make the GF: Adam Goodes, your time is now.

My tipping comp is a bit different to regular tipping comps.

Instead of Finals tipping, before the Finals start, we have to predict who will win the Grand Final and what their ending score (not margin) will be.

Last year I did Port Adelaide, 114 points. I was 3 or something points off and still won zilch. I was pretty close though.

This year I did Adelaide, 116 points. I tip with my head, not my heart.
Vicky Pollard: Oh my god I so can't believe you just said that this is like the time I threw Anita's nokia in the canal as a joke and she's like you have well got to buy me another one and I'm like get over it and then Paul came over who's adopted anyway and started saying that I fancy Mark Bennett but oh my god just because I have sex with someone doesn't mean I fancy them.

We're not gone by a long shot. If we were going to be premiers before friday night then we can still be premiers from here. If we get over Geelong this weekend then we will face the saints at the G, if we can't win that match then we couldn't possibly win the GF anyway. Sure the saints might have an extra week off but I still believe we can take them with the form we're in.

Maybe we should also throw Port Adelaide into the mix. They are coming back to form very fast and look dangerous. I wouldn't be suprised if they get atop of Crows this Saturday.

Saints have a very good midfield. Anyway now the teams with the rest are in the box seat ; it's as simple as that.

It seemed that St Kilda were written off because of a few injuries. What the critics had neglected to look at was that their players (except for possibly Kosi) would be back in the second week of the finals. I believe St Kilda are the team to beat for the flag as they have a reasonable backline with Hudgton & Maguire due back an excellent midfield and very solid forward line. I still wouldn't write off the Swans as we are a very determined side with a good forward line - If ONLY we could get the ball inside the 50 more for our forwards.

I look forward (please beat Geelong) to a Preliminary Final against St Kilda as one way or the other they are the team to beat. It's great that they are the flavour of the month again in Melbourne - they may try to talk it down but all of Melbourne feels they are the TEAM (similar to 1997 infact). In 1997 Adelaide killed them off, if another interstate team was to beat them I see Sydney as the team to do it, as it will take discipline and close in hard football to beat them.

The latest Flag betting from Centrebet looks like this:

              $2.20 St Kilda
              $3.50 West Coast
              $6.50 Sydney
              $8.00 Adelaide
              $10.00 Port Adelaide
              $16.00 Geelong

              Any suprises here?

                StKilda still favourite.

I think we should be second.

                Don't write off Port yet!!

Think it will be Swans and West Coast/Adelaide Grand final. We will plug away in the next two games and get to the Grand.
                    Love those Swans

The best two teams will play each other the week before the GF - us and St Kilda.
Saints to beat Eagles in the GF.

Hmmm i hate a cliche, but footy's a funny game isnt it.

Only last week Adelaide were in top spot after beating west Coast, and now they lose one game by a few points to a team on fire and they're rejected as favourites to win the GF?

Oh well, at least it adds value to my wager on them for the premiership when i go down to the TAB today. At $8, thats huuuuge value!!!

If we beat the Cats the winner of the Saints-Swans Prelim will decide the premiership. The question mark over Port is 4 tough away games but I agree its not beyond them.

The game v Adelaide is a pretty nice "away" game for them!

The game against the Crows is very much a home game for them, I guess. Homeground-wise, they are not much worse than us, i.e., away-home-away-away, if they could get that far, of course.
