I understand cressakel, but when James Hird was taken in the draft 10 years ago drafting was a skill all clubs were just learning. I even read somewhere that no one had even been to see Hird play before he was drafted?
We now have full time talent identification managers in each state, national pathway projects, draft camps and all the clubs recruiting staff have doubled over the last 10 years. There are even books published and websites where you can get statistical information on kids who are 15 +, but are showing potential.
When someone like Kevin Shehan says the draft is thin they are in a much better position to make that call than 10 years ago.

I'm not inferring that Sheehan was wrong, I am simply stating that some players develop later or don't fit the so-called mould of the athletic, 190cm, 85kg modern day footballer. There is a Greg Williams, Sam Mitchell and James Hird type waiting in every draft.....
