    Friday Evening...could I make it?

Is anyone else trying their luck on Friday night flying down after work? I got the Friday off work for the WC game so cannot push my luck again. Is this possible...

Finish work at Rouse Hill at 3:30pm, drive to airport, park and check in for a 5:15pm flight to Melbourne...arriving at 6:45pm (if on time) and then straight to the G.

Is this time possible, or am I just being crazy in thinking it could work?

    * Rouse Hill is about a 1 hour drive to airport in normal traffic.

    Thanks for the advice.

Matt, if you make your flight, you'll make the game.

Assuming you get out of the airport at 7pm (ie, you take only hand luggage and don't stop for dinner), there shouldn't be any doubt that you'll get to the game at 8. You won't have a lot of time, but certainly if you get out of your taxi and walk once you get reasonably close to the ground (which will be chaotic), you shouldn't have any problems.

It should only take about 25-30 minutes to get from Tullamarine to the city.

Easy, if Cher can leave Avalon at 4.30 on a Fri and get to see the whole game last Fri you can do it

Certainly appreciate the advice mate. How is the traffic into Melbourne CBD on a Friday night from the airport? If it was like Sydney last Friday evening getting to the Swans then I would be lucky to make it by half time.

Matt, extremely tight schedule but it can work with the following:

            * Plane needs to be on time which is not a common occurance for Sydney on a Friday night. Have been stuck on a Friday night many a time in Sydney coming back from work.

            * Only hand luggage

            * You may want to pre book a cab from Melbourne Airport, I have spent at least 30 minutes in line at Melbourne Airport on a Friday night waiting for a cab!!!!!!!

            * Finally, insist that the cabbie take you on City Link over the Bolte Bridge, then left onto Westgate Freeway and then off at the Arts Centre (which you go behind and under) and then onto Brunton Avenue. Have him drop you at Rod Laver Arena (Tennis Centre), then take the footbridge over to the MCG

Once again, schedule is tight but with planning and a few hail mary's for the flight it is do able.

Traffic into CBD from Airport always hectic at that peak hour especially on a Friday. I live near the airport and always see the traffic heading toward Melbourne as crazy around that time. Normally you would allow 25-30 Minutes - But in this instance allow 40-45 Minutes.

Perhaps look for the VHA plated cars rather than a taxi - probably cost around $60.00 but may not have to join queue. (These guys aren't meant to take passengers but they do). Their drivers would be lurking around. Otherwise call a VHA car before arriving to guarantee a car waiting for your arrival.

DST's route could be the best one as going through the city at that time would be chaotic.

Suggest you have a sudden migrane headache at noon and join me on the 2.30pm flight. Top dollar for any flights after then.

Lets see, Friday I knock off at 3:30 then I have to work again at 5:30 Saturday evening.

If I had the bloody money for a ticket to the game and a plane ticket, planned not to sleep that night, and came straight back... I could do it. But money. Yeah.

                        Actually...

                        Nah.

Airport to City traffic won't be to bad.

However, City to G will be pretty bad could be worth a short quick walk from the east city edge if things come to a stand still. (About 15- 20 mins walk)

15 minutes should be plenty of time to walk from Flinders Street to the MCG. Probably the best way to go is this:
                            - From Federation Square, walk towards the Arts Centre, but turn left just before reaching the bridge over the Yarra, and go behind Fed Square.
                            - Follow the Yarra through the park (it's called Birrarung Marr), cross Batman Avenue (I think it's Batman) and you get to Rod Laver Arena.
                            - Walk anti-clockwise around the Rod Laver concourse until you get to a footbridge. Take the footbridge; you'll end up on the MCG concourse.

This is from Flinders Street though - perhaps not the best way to go from the airport.

I'd opt for straight up Wellington Pde. You don't have to worry about where you are going, and there will be plenty of ppl heading that way. Or you could jump on a tram, get off @ the Hilton Hotel.
