Open you eyes, Crouch is not underrated, he is one very average footballer, he did well on Didak i admit that, but i would beat Gary Moorcroft, I've seen Crouch beaten far too many times to start calling him a good player and underrated.

He is our fastest player and is a different type of tagger to Kirk

From my memory he has beaten or broken - even with all of his opponents except for maybe Milne last year and possibly Burgoyne a few years back.

He has always done well on Matera, Burns, Lappin (carlton)

In my opinion, you're entitled to disagree, Crouch wold not be playing in any other side in the competition. He does alright on some of his opponents, I agree, however he is not hard enough at the footy and his turnovers are costly. By the way I don't think he is the fastest bloke at the club.

Crouch has improved, no arguments there, however has he improved enough to warrant the respect you are giving him. I don't think we can win a flag with blokes like him running around.

As a matter a fact I think Kirk is a good footballer, he plays well every week and if i have no problems with him atall.

An interesting excerpt from this weeks :

"I have also had lots of people ask me questions about what I said to Allan Didak on the field in about the third quarter. Well I think he may have been a little frustrated. The ball had been in their forward fifty for some time and we had managed to repel and block up quite a few attempts on goal. He tried to play for a free kick, which I didn't like. Without giving too much away of what happened on the field I told him that I believed his behavious wasn't proper behaviour for a fellow South Australian - something that in due course we will both be able to laugh about. OK then so tell what is the job of a tagger???? To keep his man away from the ball, so its unlikely therefore that he will go near the footy. Also, why would he go into packs when he if did, and the ball came out to his man and his man ran into an open goal, with him still on the ground - would that be OK?????? Of course people like you would complain even more.

You really should understand a players role in the team before attacking them.

I agree stats are over-rated and rarely tell the whole picture. But Crouch is neck and neck with Kirk at the top of the Swans tackle list this year, which doesn't really support the suggestion he is soft.

One "stat" that I do think is telling is where players finish in the club's B&F award, simply because it is voted on by the coaches who know what job a player is asked to do week in week out and who are far more aware of the contribution a player makes to a game than we supporters are capable of telling. Last year Crouch finished 4th...

I am from the old school which believes that you are allocated an opponent and your primary task is to make sure your direct opponent doesn't get a kick. For a backman or tagger that task is paramount. If a HBF gets one or no kicks and his direct opponent gets no kicks than the backman has won the duel. Stats will not tell the story. Only after you have beaten your direct opponent and gained possession does the task of making an attacking play and accurately disposing of the ball become important IMO. Stats don't tell you what a player has done with the possession he got.

My theory is that unless the game is extremely one-sided, both teams will get pretty similar number of possessions in any game. It then all depends on the quality of possessions. Take the Collingwood game as an example, both teams got pretty similar number of posessions but our possessions are more effective than theirs.

It is very pleasing to see we now do seem to have the class to hurt oppositions with our possesions (with the development and addition of Schneider, Davis, Kennelly and few others). Under Eade, we lacked this spark to be a top side. If we could address our structure weakness, we should be right.

Again, compare ourselves with Collingwood. They also have a structure weakness which is similar to us (lack of quality KPP backman, and a weak ruck division). However, they do lack that class that our team does seem to possess. It will be much harder for them to reach the top than us. Also given that their class players are aging and consequently their contribution will be dimishing while ours are maturing and their contribution is growing, we are in much better position than Collingwood to challenge for the flag in the medium term.

Not a great deal of support for your criticism of Crouch eh Plugger?

Whe Fixter returns to the side it may be an idea to have Ben take over Crouch's role as a tagger, easing him back into the game in that sort of role. This would allow Crouch more freedom and he could be an attacking weapon. I remember Kennely's first game against Carlton when Jarred went forward and kicked a rew goals.

I rate him as a good goalkicker from a set shot.

By the way, Crouch won the sprint race on Grand Final day last year.
