Just listened to it - spine-tingling stuff! But why did they keep going on and on about it being highway robbery, I think they even said "this is wrong" when the siren went
At least the TV commentators acknowledged Davis' brilliance and the fightback.
We may have been extremely lucky and didn't really deserve to win, but come on, if you're the better team for the majority of the game as Geelong were, but don't put it on the scoreboard when you have the chance, then are you really the better team? Harsh, but I can remember several occasions in the past few years where the Swans learned this lesson (as recently as last week!), and in 2002 IIRC when we lost all those close games.
Edit: Re-reading my post I don't want to be too hard on the Cats - they were brave, but Huddo made a telling comment in the dying stages before THAT bounce - "They aren't daring to go after the footy. The Swans are..." The difference in the final quarter perhaps?Last edited by Xie Shan; 12 September 2005, 03:51 PM. -
Thanks for that Rizzo! Now I don't even have to leave my desk to replay that event over and over. At least I had to go to the video before.
It is spine tingling and the roar of noise they had seems more the way I recall it than the more muted one on Ch10.Comment

That Geelong missed their chances is undoubtable, but the game was still 'pinched' and it's pretty normal when the side that leads virtually all day loses in amazing circumstances, it is considered 'wrong'.
Sometimes you guys are a bit too precious about any perceived 'negative' comments. They weren't done with any malice.
Huddo's comment on Geelong not going for the ball was correct, and I think it was Rex who sounded disappointed when Johnson didn't take the ball out and Ablett knocked it in. Huge mistake, but I guess he was worried about being pinged for deliberate. It was unlikely though.
Garry Lyon does talk about Davis at the end too.
Very exciting to listen again though. My heart-rate just jumped a few notches and I could picture the whole thing in my head.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

The Sydney MMM call when Davis kicked that goal basically consisted of lots of unintelligible screaming. (I suspect it was mostly Luffy)
