Here's a simple idea.

We have a captain, who at present is mostly in the forward line.
We also have a mid field and a backline.

The leadership rotation worked well.

Why not a captain and two "zone leaders" who each direct the area they play in.

So under the current arrangement we have Big Bad as captain and forward leader, then (from the leadership roster) Tiberius (Kirk) as midfield leader and Leaping Leo as backline leader.

It makes allows closer direction of play and players, makes the other players more responsible, and opens up another career ambition for all the players - they can become a zone leader as part of the step to become club captain.

Thoughts? Feelings? (anyone got a snappier name than zone leader?)

I'm really starting to relish the prospect of beating the Saints an Friday night - they are sounding v arrogant...

Even Roos has alluded to this being an unofficial leadership structure of sorts on the ground. So while one might be the face of the club in the official capacity, when it comes to game day, he wants a group of them to take on a role of captain.

as you say, there is an informal leadership structure - my point being that formalising it should lead to greater accountability. Of course it takes all 22 to play their best to win big matches, but with a zone leader there's someone who has the reponsibility to direct that area. (even the maggots recognise that one person can't be everywhere all the time)

No - there's a formal leadership group. Each has a role in directing part of the team. Funny that when a cooler head was needed to keep Baz calm they picked Crouch though he isn't in the leadership group - yet.

Goodes is, I think. And Tiger of course. Disciples=gang=team? Just different eras. There's a difference between personal faith and bible bashing. agreed, though let's hope that at least each of hall, goodes and bolton makes a pressing case over the next two weeks.

I asked Crouch to come to our Youth Group one friday before the season started, amazing bloke. Its a fair drive out our way in the peak hour but he came and stayed for a solid 5-6 hours chattin with the kids and helpin out with the games. Regardless of his status in the leadership group, hes a dam fine leader within the community.

Which captain's a buddhist? In any case whether you think a prosetilizing Christian is capable of being part of the leadership group is irrelevant (though it suggests a somewhat tenuous grasp of the reality of team dynamics). Ddespite his Australian jumper and many games on end the players have, for whatever reason, decided otherwise.

Indeed my reading of the texts suggest that JC wasn't a dogmatic, puritanical wowser; which made him very different from many of those who currently purport to be his followers.
