Good question Nicko - Mike and I were discussing this earlier today... It certainly doesn't say anywhere if the money is going to the club or not... Probably the usual "improving player facilities" thing

(I would also accept "all proceeds to be donated to the 'improve the quality of SCG catering' Fund" )

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

It goes to the club. These things are so popular because the club stand to make a huge amount of cash. St Kilda made a $60,000 profit on their TOTC, while the Bulldogs made $200,000.

So if on average each jumper went of $3000 the club will make over $70,000. The dinner will pull in another $50,000. The jumpers will be presented to the players who make the TOTC so they will make another $70,000 and then the club will get a painting made of the TOTC and prints of this will be sold at $500 each limited to 2000 = $$$$$ and will also auction off the painting which if looking at other clubs would be $60,000. So the club will be looking at making close to $300,000 out of this event.

despite the fact that these guernseys will sell way beyond anything i am financially capable of, to know the money goes back to the club makes one's bid limit just that much higher. if the money was going to some charity, as good as that may be, i dont think i'd be prepared to fork out as much (again if i had the moola)

TOTC is on Friday August 9 IIRC (the night before we play Hawthorn). I believe tix are still available - give the club a call, they'll know.

On the subject of the guernsey prices - nothing less than $900 now.

I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

Furthermore some bidders have placed 4 and 5 consecutive bids, which means that individuals are outbidding their own bids, that just doesn?t make sense.

The club has chosen to use a marketing organization to place the guernseys on e-bay, why would they do this? It?s not difficult to register and set up an e-bay account, it would take someone maybe a couple of hours to set up an e-bay webpage for the auction of 23 items. This would cost the club maybe $80 in wages and overheads, why would they pay a marketing organization a commission of maybe $6000+ (assuming a commission rate of 10% of the final sale price) when the e-bay process is so straightforward? Why do we employ marketing people if simple marketing operations like this are outsourced?

This ?auction? has an odor about it.
this is not some normal e-bay auction. there would be thousands of people aware of this and it is highly publicised. i have found that all tv promoted ebay auctions start with extremely healthy bidding, and it continues throughout until a late splurge at the end. they probably pay a marketing organisation for all sorts of things like the phofessional photography , the promotions, the web page design etc. i wouldnt imagine it would cost anything near $6000. maybe they get volounteers to do it or people who work for the club???

i remember big brother doing an ebay auction and the bidding was just ridiculous throughout

cheapest at this point:
$940 for Rowan Warfe
$960 for Nic Fosdike
$1000 for James Meiklejohn

and i can't afford any of them.

TOTC is 9 August. Tickets start at $150 and the closer to the front you get are more expensive (like the PK do). The Club cancelled the R&W auction this year because of the PK tribute and TOTC dinners. These are the big fund raisers for the Club this year. If anyone wants brochures, let me know, we have a stack. I will be going to both and I'll do a report on both, as usual. You can organise a table or just get put on a table with people. At the Guernsey Presentation this year, we found some RWOers at our table (hi Penga).

An update - less than an hour before the auctions close and they are WAY out of my price range.... For $1364 you can get Rowan Warfe. Team guernsey going for $7100, Goodes next best at just over $3000.

Bron,

I was going to put a post out to see if anyone here wanted to get a table together for the TOTC. So people just post here if interested.

Alot of zero bidders won these auctions, I bet that half of the Guernseys won't actually get sold.
