    Int Rules

It's not Gaelic, it's not A.F.L. It's somewhere in the middle.
Basically, Ye boys get to keep the 'mark' and are allowed to TACKLE! The Irish boys get to keep the round ball and their pitch size. But be warned, they are very fast.

Since I started this thread I might as well promote it.
The Sydney International Rules Competition is taking place at Princes Park, Auburn, on the 5th of March.
6 Sydney AFL teams vs 6 Sydney Gaelic teams.
2 pitches and 21 games in the one day!

Haven't seen it yet Pekay, and by the amount of trouble I'm having finding you guys these days, it appears the Jets have dropped off the face of the planet.

More details of the comp are up here - NorWest Jets, East Coast Eagles, Campbelltown, Penrith, Wollongong and Balmain will be competing, along with 6 Gaelic teams. Each team will have 3 games in the group stages, with AFL teams playing against Gaelic teams; and the top 2 from each group go through to the semis.

Only been down past there once - last night - and saw a footy, but I could only see about four people and they looked like juniors so I kept going.
Thanks for letting us know - I can now find you.

I am looking forward to the Int Rules day - aside from being the nearest ground to me & also a memory to my Auburn Redlegs days (when I may my official senior debut back in 1987 in SFA Div 2 as a rover!) - but also to catch up with alot of my family's Irish friends.

It should be a great day & I expect the Irish will win more of the head to heads than the Aussies.

I remember when I organised the Goannas to play the NSW Gaelic team a few years back & they murdered us - didn't help when they had a few ring-ins including a certain T Kennelly!

When you see what the Irish community can do in Sydney with facilities at a footy ground, I suggest that the individual clubs making up the Sydney AFL community strongly consider joining forces & making the effort to have our own grounds (like what the Cairns AFL has also done up there at Cazalys) - puts us to shame that we don't work together.

The Wollongong boys are all pumped up for Sunday's matches.

Lions Guest Coach for the day is yours truly. We got out the Gaelic Footy for a drill last night & we had some slight problems with the direction of the footy from the boot as well as the bounce of the ball, but expect to have those glitches ironed out before our first game at 10.40am on Sunday.

For those RWOers out there I suggest you come out for a great day & to also to show a bit of support for this inaugural pre-season event (I feel it is a bit like a 20/20 cricket game - a relaxed hit out before the season proper). It will take off.

                              To anyone whose interested,
One AFL team pulled out of the competition a couple of weeks ago. It was difficult to find a replacement as all other teams have practice matches lined up for the weekend so I am putting to gether a 'Sydney Barbarians' team consisting of a squad of 20-25 AFL players. So far I only have 10.
I know it is short notice but anyone who is interested or wants to have a go at playing the International Rules can contact me at [email protected] . All welcome, and it is on Sunday.
