Adnar not all you blokes at Balmain are innocent either mate. Ive seen them do plenty of unsavoury things in the past when playing in the SFA.

Probably the best one was Chris Parkers elbow on Scotty Ward from Bankstown. 32 stitches around his eye, 4 metal plates in his checkbone, permanent pain in his skull and never player another game. Parker on the other hand got off lighter, the tribunal read out his suspensions in the previous 5 years (around thirty weeks in all) told him he was a clown and gave him a life suspension.

I somehow doubt the IR incident was anywhere near as bad/or deliberate as the one I have just descibed.

In fairness to Chris I have shared a few beers with him and he seems like a good bloke, one who suffers from white line fever when playing though I suspect.

Anyone that has to resort to physical violence isn't a footballer.

Although it's easy to do, I wouldn't attribute the actions of one person to represent an entire club (past, present or future).

Sure Balmain walked off, it's not a response that everyone has liked but it's better than engaging in a melee and bringing the reputation of our great game to an even lower level than what it is in Sydney.

The only other appropriate action would to have been to continue playing - a hard, tough person/club is the one that cops the knock and retaliates through a smile and better performance, not a punch, but since the IR tournament is supposed to be a trial leading up to the regular season there's no point in getting injured pre-season.

I think Balmain made the right decision to pull the pin after the incident. The coaches and officials at Balmain have set the standard and they obviously won't tolerate any violence.

Refer to the SAFL Coaches and Players code of conduct if you have any doubt.

To clear a few things up for you. The IR tournament was the brain child of my mate Irish who posts on this site, works for me and plays footy at South West with me. It wasnt designed as a trial but a new event that would introduce people from each code to the others game and be a fun day in general.

Yes your right that the coaches and officials of Balmain have set the standard but it is yet to be seen whether they live by this or just provide lip service. Will they stand down their players who commit acts of thugery or cowardice that go unseen by the men in charge? I doubt it but will be the first to appologise if they do.

At the end of the day whats done is done, Balmain didn't get much out of it except a broken knee but at least they came down and gave it a go and I thank them for that. The other 11 teams were delighted with the result and i'm sure they got something out of it.
If it goes ahead next year, we'll definatley get the AFL on board in some way, to keep it more even.

I'm sure all clubs are, I am not defending things that have gone on the past. I don't think the 18 year old who was injured should be told to get on with it because someone else at his club did something years ago.

Just seems like a crap situation and a crap outcome. These things happen in amatuer sport.

Mate your missing the point. None of us know what really happened out there and I dont expect the kid to just get up and get on with things either, but I would have expected the club to continue on.

Every weekend in Sydney footy acts of cowardice occur, it is something we wont be able to get away from for a long time I suspect. I refered to one example because it directly related to the Club in mention, not to justify what happened to the young bloke as an act ok Karma.

I dont have a problem with violence in footy either, which probably goes against the AFLs newage good will to all men policys. It is a physical game and tempers flare so I understand the occasionaly "mele". I dont however condone random acts of violence, ie hitting a bloke from behind.

Hopefully the young bloke is ok and doesnt take to long to recover.

Also hows young Rhys travelling down there?
