    Sydney Footy Record in 2006

Some of you may have already received this in an email, but in case you haven't and have some ideas for the Footy Record, I'm putting this notice up here.
If you've got any ideas for what would be good to put in the Record, or would like to have a go at writing it, drop Brett Pettersen from the Sydney AFL a line at [email protected] . I've expressed an interest already, but I'm sure there's room for more contributors. And even if you don't feel you can commit to regularly contributing but would like to write an occasional column, or have an idea for something that should be there, I'm sure your ideas would be welcomed.

    From: "Brett Pettersen"
    Hi All,

The Footy Record in 2006 again will be a downloadable document for clubs to print and supply to members and supporters at their home venues.
In the second half of last year, the Record?s format and quality was upgraded markedly and we are continuing efforts to further improve thus providing a worthy, relevant, informative and interesting production. Given that clubs are being asked to print the records themselves, we are also trying to balance the number of pages and how the document prints (which impacts on club resources) with making the Record as interesting as we can.
The production will continue to be inclusive of the Premier Division, First Division, U18s and Second Division.
We are searching for weekly contributors who are knowledgeable of Sydney football, have good written skills and are able to meet mid-week deadlines. We would like your club to advertise this through your website and/or emailing lists to help us find such suitable people.
Applications should be made to Brett Pettersen via email or post as details listed below.
At this stage we are looking to include weekly spots for:
    Coach Profile plus photo
    Player Profiles plus photo
Premier Division weekly wrap-up and review of the upcoming round
First Division weekly wrap-up and review of the upcoming round
Historical Article (NSW Historical Society will be providing)
    Weekly Poll (from the website)
Clubs Corner ? Club events, notes, important notices, milestones etc
    Photographs

This will be in addition to the continuing:
Team lists (and numbers) for each club (clubs will be required to send a list of exactly 30 players for their senor squads in Premier and First Division as well as all Under 18 teams? more details to follow re this). This will again include two sponsor logo spots each.
Ladders and goal kicking top 10 in each division
    NAB Rising Star Weekly Nominee

New items we may also be able to include are:
Team line-ups will appear for the first time for the Premier Division seniors and will be taken directly from the Teams submitted for the papers.
    Talent Program updates
    Greater Sydney Juniors updates

    New ideas are welcome also.

If you are someone or know someone who can help with any of the above named items to be contributed please contact Brett by March 30th.

Up in Cairns the footy record has a page dedicated to each club every week - each club has to submit a report of maximum 525 words by the Wednesday & may include a report of the previous match, upcoming match, events, player awards, chook raffle winners, new sponsors, etc.

It also has contact details of coaches, prez, email & web addresses together with training nights & home ground location. It became an advert for those interested in having a run after watching a local game of footy.

The big thing that I reckon should happen is that the Record is printed & not merely a document available online.

I used to like KT's Footystats & also head to head stats - eg overall, Win Loss at the ground & last 3 scores between the 2 sides, biggest winning margin, lowest & highest scores against the opponent.
See me run a marathon again as a leprechaun?

Had a chat to the boys about this at training tonight - I'm gunna have a go at getting a weekly match report/preview done for the SWS Magpies website each week, and can't see any reason why this couldn't extend to the footy record if they were willing to publish it.

Would be great coverage for us and our sponsors, so we'd jump at the chance.

Dont even get me started....am wondering why we(Jets and St Clair-stand alone clubs)have to pay affiliation fees to the AFL,when they havent even released our draw yet("waiting for juniors then we do yours")the attitude from the league in regards to 2nd Div footy is deplorable at best,it may not be Premier League, but its the only footy my boys can play,so it should be treated with the same level of respect as any other league. If the powers that be in the office read this, well thats a good start, maybe they'll pull their finger out,coz i'm getting p**sed off.

Just because some comps may not be as high in standard as others, doesn't mean they aren't important and don't deserve a little respect.
The Sydney AFL has three (count them - one, two, three) divisions, and ALL deserve to be treated equally.

Every other competition I have ever seen has draws out before Christmas and there is still not a Division Two out three weeks from the first game - that's unacceptable in my book.

I know juniors are the future of football, but fair dinkum, I've also never seen junior competitions given precedence over seniors.

Pete dont worry, you and I know that as long as we keep working towards a goal things will eventually pay off. It may not be whilst we are playing but it will come. Ive played in Grand finals and been a wooden spooner now so I have seen how things change and how quickly as well. Keep surrounding yourself with motivated people and things will keep moving.

Also you and I know that had the AFL been willing to compromise this year you wouldnt have been in third div

Just for those that aren't aware,a deadline was set by the AFL and agreed to by myself and committee,of mid January to get our club right, recruit the right number of players required to field two teams.Obviously we couldnt reach said deadline,so after discussion amongst club members and committee,we put in an application to field our team in 1st Division Reserve Grade for 2006-a promotion from Div2 in itself.Whether it was canned by the league itself or by the competing 1st Div clubs,i dont know but at the end of the day,we didnt meet criteria.I also had informal talks with Holroyd-Parra about us playing Ressies and Goannas playing 1st Grade, but many issues sttod in the way-eg travel, defence force cant go too far from base etc.All in all,we tried to go back up in some form only to be told we cant.

I hope so. It would be good if Div 2 could get some sort of coverage - they're part of the competition.
When I did the preview columns in the Record last year I mentioned what games were on, but because of space constraints plus a lack of real inside knowledge I couldn't really include anything else. I'd love to see someone who's more up than me with what's going on in Div 2 give some sort of coverage.
I know there's space constraints, and unfortunately the money isn't there to do a printed Record, but it would be good to see Div 2 get some recognition.

Another announcement I can now make is that I'll be doing the weekly review column here on RWO again this season. Although most of what I write (and photograph) will be on the premier division, 1st and 2nd division are very much valued here on RWO.
I'll be putting up the scores from all divisions (at least what scores I can get by Sunday evening) again, and possibly give a small review of 1st & 2nd divisions in the column. And just maybe (if I get time and a chance to do it, no promises), a visit to Rosedale and/or Bensons Lane during the season.

It's not that bad, as long as you don't need to get changed.

                            Or have a shower.

                            Or play a game.

Seriously, though, it was awful to read about the trouble with council (& cricket) at Dukes, that was a nice place to play footy (albeit small).

Have heard that Mac Uni are also having trouble getting on Roger Sheeran, must be something in the stars this year.....
I hear not what you say, for the thunder of who you are.
