Interesting way of picking the best players. Just curious how the players coming second, third and also another in the top ten did not make the rep squad now of 51 players. Is it political or is there another explanation for it????

The league selectors and the weekly best player selectors I assume are different people.
You would think by the amount of times a player needs to have been in the best to be Top 10 at this stage of the season that they would be very seriously looked at for the squad.
Unless reputations come into it a bit more than they should.

Its interesting to note that ECE have only one player in the top ten for Premier Div so far this year, and that player, I'm led to believe, has missed several games with an injury.

This throws up the old argument of whether or not the coaching staff, or coaching army for ECE, actually name their "Best" players. Maybe Kangacoach could throw in his two cents worth about this matter..

                  Here's my 10 cents worth.
The key for the Eagles this year has been a consitent level of contribution from all players. There obviously some stand outs but the load has been shared. Best players each week are pretty accurate but like most coaches, I would gues, sometimes what an outsider sees is not what the coach sees. I know the ECE coaching Army, as they are known, is very big on recognising players that play a role in order to let others rack up big numbers.

I certainly can't speak for EastCoast but I would be very suprised if ALL the players named in the best each week in any team are always the teams actual BEST players. There are always players who perform above their normal or expected level who you put in, that may not have necessarily been better than your top 3-4 players who have had their standard 20+ disposals or kicked their 3-4 goals for the game.

It certainly depends on the coach, more than a few past & present Sydney AFL playing coaches like to pencil themselves in the best each week as well. I know that they will probably say that " the bench staff do the best players, I don't have any input". Possible maybe, but not very probable!

I guess the other thing to look at is do coaches want to draw attention to their in form players? I am pretty sure that more than a few coaches will just look at who has been in the best for the other team consistently and plan to shut them down.

As for EastCoast, maybe they are a very even team across the board and playing team football as their results suggest. Which means any number of players are in contention for the best 6 each week and not just 1 or 2 dominate players.

Tongue in cheek, I believe you neither put your self in the best nor does the bench officials?

A coach who does not recognise themselves as a player only does so as they still would like to be considered amongst the best each week.

The only other playing coach in comp I see does not feature in the teams best each week.

End of the day it is the team result that really matters.

Re ECE, they do not have a standout player. GUs is just a big man but the others would not feature prominently as the top 3 players in any other team. However, there is not much difference between the socalled top and bottomplayers.

I see the mighty Penno are more even too this year as you see our old Clarke who is not the most naturally gifted footballer nor brain surgeon feature highly in the polls.

I would think that a couple of additions could be Laine Spencer and Gus Seebeck. My sympathies to any team that had to deal with these two coming out of the goal square. (maybe ACTAFL rep side)

No offence, but both not that great. I didnt know simply being big made you good. It will be interesting to see how Wests and St George handle these 2 in the finals.

ACT will be able to have a mobile big man who would exploit these two if they were to play.

The Crows have turned into a big side this year and wil be the team to beat come finals. Hopefully be a showdown between them and the Mighty Penno.

BMR, ofcourse you are missing some of the best players in the comp. NO need to name but I understand you criteria as you can only go on what is submitted to the paper.

Ash, I'm sure there are top players missing, but I'm glad you understand how it works now.
As I said to supporters of another league on another website, it can only be 100% foolproof if the clubs submit the blokes who are actually their best players - certainly the best four or five anyway. Not doing so can be seen to be treating long distance supporters who can't attend matches with contempt.
I'm happy that it sorts itself out in the end, as last year's result of Paul Gambale topping the list and medal voting showed.

I would be interested in knowing who you are talking about, if only to be able to tell you exactly where they are ranked at the moment.
