Ash and his blind comments that hit the mark

I think we have to show Ash and his comments a bit more respect. I have taken the time to list some:

    20th May
Quote regarding ECE: 'and ECE seem to have 50 on their coaching staff'.

Fact: According to my sources ECE have a senior coach, two non playing assistants and one playing assistant.

    20th May
Quote regarding Easts performance vs ECE: 'you did look decent and had ECE measure during the 2ndQ at Henson'.

Fact: ECE outscored Easts 7.13 to 3.1 in that period (36 points). The game was played at Alan Davidson, not Henson.

    28th May
Quote rearding Tara: 'Tara, I assume your Female or a Trannsexui (Transexual)'.

Fact: Tara is a male who uses his daughters name as his login user.

Lets as a footy family make sure we get behind the little champion and give him the support he needs so we can look forward to his accurate posts in the future!
    Get Busy!

Hindsight's a wonderful thing, and we'd all love to know in advance which games are going to be close, controversial or exciting. It doesn't always go by the form book - a few weeks ago, we'd all have picked East Coast v St George as being a battle for top spot but it hasn't turned out that way, and between now and the end of the season there'll be plenty more twists and form changes.
Plus, as has been mentioned before, they try to share the games around, and there's various technical issues as well - some grounds have media facilities while at others they need to hire a cherry-picker, which I can imagine wouldn't always be available. Plus the volunteer commentators and others have club and personal commitments which could sometimes have a bearing on what games are selected.
I think Jacks, BMR and the rest of the team do an outstanding job, and I always enjoy watching. Unfortunately, as Shearer has mentioned, Fox Footy may not exist in its current form next year with the new TV rights. Fox Footy don't pay any production costs (as far as I'm aware), but do provide the airtime; but Fox Sports next year may not be willing to screen it.

        * I think it is great that we get to see any game of Sydney footy on the box each week - I couldn't care less what game it is as I enjoying watching all of the teams running around.

        * Give me blowouts & give me close one pointers. The AFL & NRL themselves doesn't necessarily pick the best match of each round & there have been some monumental blowouts in some matches they have picked.

        * Having a match on the box is such an advancement for Sydney footy from years gone by.

        * I enjoyed the Balmain v St George in now of the first games - Saints were lucky to come back in the last quarter of that one.

        * I like seeing how ECE have developed over the years - I remember playing against the old Baulko at Charles McLaughlin in the mud for the mighty Auburn Redlegs back in 3rd division years ago. They have done well & deserve the kudos for their hard work on & off the field.

        * The highlights reel - produced as a result of the Fox Footy games - also makes the Phelan medal night alot better spectacular than what we were used to in years gone by.

        * By each club getting a few games each year it definitely helps with raising cash for the club when talking to sponsors.

        * The gong had their first win against UNSW on the weekend & only their second away win in the Premier League - I think very few people thought they would win by "2000" ... perhaps the game would have been closer if Luffy wasn't commenting the Swans game on MMM.

        * Well done to the boys at Digital Productions - this show may be a significant stepping stone for them in their professional careers.

        * I look forward to seeing if Ash has picked the best games for the rest of the year ... public opinion is always great.

        * Perhaps the Sydney AFL community can vote & get Kefalas from UNSW a gig as "special comments" commentator when his career is over??
See me run a marathon again as a leprechaun?

Like everything else it is not always what is best but more what the money says is best
I to am very happy that any sydney footy is televised at all. So thank you to all those volunteers who make it possible.

Jacks you have repeatedly stated that the first 10 rounds was about sharing the coverage around equally.
A quick count of these rounds will show that:

              Three teams got 3 games
              Five teams got 2 games
              One team got 1 game

Does not seem like to much thought was put in to it!!

I assume your statement that I have quoted above is true then??

                Matto,
Not entirely correct but close. The games are shared as much as possible but ground suitability and crew availability are also contributing factors. Also trying to predict which clubs may get more coverage in the later part of the year when we try to go with the better games comes into it as well.
Unfortunately it is not just as simple as picking the best game of the weekend and turning up, the same as it is difficult to give each club the same number of games. We do our best!

Who really cares which games get televised and which don't??

I reckon it is great full-stop to be able to watch our comp on tele on a Friday night... I couldn't give a rats whether it is ECE pumping Balmain or a nail-biter... All i care about (aside from Kefalas) is that our comp is getting exposure...

Keep up the good work fellas!!! People who want to nit-pick are holding everyone back by discouraging the volunteers passion for having a go and doing the hard work.

Instead of bagging these guys, they deserve our praise...

I realise i am just echoing Rafters thoughts, so also it needs to be said I_Heart_Rafters...

Monty, you must be the only person who believes the best players each week is accurate.
PLease monty, go home to Smithers (or Kefalas)

Deciding who is best player is subjective - sometimes we agree with the players named, sometimes not; but who is to say who is right or wrong?
BeeEmmAre uses the best players list for his Player of the Year system, which nominated Paul Gambale as best last year - Gambale was also leading vote-winner in the Phelan Medal, but was ineligible. I believe his system has also been successful in the Coreen District and Ovens & Murray Leagues.

I cannot for the life of me imagine why FoxSports would bother with the continuation of the SFL match of the day. Realise it is run on the skin of an oily rag by volunteers and not dissing them but to me it is amateurish at best. Also, let's face it - SFL first grade is not of sufficient standard to be shown regularly on TV, the standard of footy is pretty crap when compared with your other viewing options (can understand the GF but that is about it).

Unless you have some direct attachment with the club playing (i.e. you know the people personally in which case you may well be at the game anyway) it has been my experience that you lose interest pretty damn quickly - bear in mind this is coming from someone with a genuine interest in the game in Sydney so your average armchair chardy-sipping Swans fan would be gone a lot quicker.

I would imagine the ratings are nothing short of appalling and Fox are really doing us a favour by runnning it all so enjoy it while it lasts.

In many ways I think the money would be better spent on grass roots development of the senior game anyway - even with the budget standard I would imagine the costs for a season would be in excess of $100,000 which to me is an expensive novelty.
I am not sure what you are doing in your arm chair then if is not sipping chardy?

If you had a geniune interest in Sydney Football and football as a whole in NSW you would not only watch the game but realise that the boys at Digital Sports and Fox Footy give senior football in Sydney more exposure and credibility than any other medium by the length of a Ben Graham Torpedo.

I am sure that there are figures for estimated viewers, area etc...

Where should the $100,000 go for grassroots senior football? Maybe it could be spent on advertising? Not sure what you get these days for the magical figure of $100,000 and gives you an hour per week for 6mths or maybe you could give the 17 senior clubs from the 2 divisions $5882.35 each?

It is always easy to criticise and don't get me wrong here everyone is entitled to their own opinion but how about coming up with a few alternatives before you go criticising those people who are trying to grow the game in Sydney.

I always think that the best judges are the players themselves, not blokes lining up at the canteen for their 3rd stubbie and 4th pie. Was that you at Penno with the tomato sauce all down your front, Ash?

Having played in the games, I can confirm that they are reasonably accurate. Kefa also received the players player award in Rd 7. That would be a pretty accurate reflection any reasonable person would think.

Kanga in fairness to Woodsy I dont think he was knocking the fact the the games are shown but merely pointing out that he cant see what makes it financially viable for Fox to show the Games and therefore why they bother.

I agree with you that there is no better way of promotion the game for $100 K. I work in print media and advertising is very expensive ie $2000 for a full page advertisment in a magazine with a national circulation of 35000 (note this figure is based on actual sales not people who may read the mag where the figures are usually quoted inexcess of 200000).

Hopefully for the sake of the game in NSW the games will continue to be shown in the future becuase to not do so would be another backward step that the game in NSW really doesnt need at the moment.

Hopefully the AFL may put aside some additional funding in the future to help promote the local senior clubs in each area through adverts etc in local papers or even a letter drop drop though a company such as salmat.

No Monty, but it seems you must have been in that line!

Again your shortsightedness. ALso, how can a footballer really know who is best on a given day? Really, many are lucky to know how to do their shoelace. No disrespect to the players that can.

                              Are you a current "player"?
