    Preliminary Final tip

    PRELIMINARY FINAL

    Western Suburbs v Pennant Hills

    Who will win and why?

Wests have had a tough run in the past two weeks with two tough, physical games, which admittedly they thrive in.
They will know they have another two tough ones to go if they are to win the flag.
The Magpies caught the Demons off guard with a physical gameplan the last time they met and wore them down before running away in the last quarter - Penno will be ready for that this time and proved in the third quarter of the first semi that they had taken measures to improve in this facet of the game.
Injuries are important as well, with Paul Folkard missing the first semi for Penno and Adam Fiddler, David Linsen and Matthew Cox out of the second semi for Wests.
Cox will be back in this week and will add run to Wests' team, while Salem Kassem's match up with Laine Spencer (hopefully) will have a lot to do with the result.
The other thing to take into account is the loss of three key Wests' staff members to AFL commitments at the SCG.
What sort of a role will that play?
Also, the loss of both Wests' ruckmen last week - Tim Lambert and Andy Eurell - Lambert likely to be out, Eurell unsure.
They will need a ruckman against Alex Fraunfelter who is in good form.
I've read elsewhere on here that the second semi finalists haven't both made the grand final for five years or so and Wests will be desperate to reverse that trend.
I'm giving them another chance, and am unsure how the multi pronged forward attack of Wests can be stopped - with four big marking forwards able to spend time down there.
    This should be a thriller.

Im tipping Penno,if Potter & Talbot get a fair bit of the footy they will be very damaging.

The worrying stat for Kev and his boys is that in the last two matches they have only kicked 1 goal in the second half. If Penno can stick with them until half time they could run away with it.

As well aware what happens leading up to finals does not have a great deal to do with results, (penno) with losses in the last 2 rounds to Uni and to North Shore, but accounted for st george quite easily in the end........

It will be interesting to see how close this game is then we can tell is penno that good or were st george that bad??????

Fiddler did not play in the second half against Campbelltown and all of the forwards played out of position for the second half last week when Wests were without a ruckman - Catter and Withers in the ruck at times. This might explain a few things.

As I hinted last week, IMO Fiddler is the most damaging running forward in the game. In the last 10 years he has played in 4 GFs and missed last year due to injury. A great record. Wests will be hoping he is back this week and I reckon Withers also - they are a great combination together.

penno played their grand final last week they would need to improve on that to beat wests....... wests have the players to match up on pennos forwards and still have the dangerous forward line to worry penno.... withers to kick a bag and cole to chip in with 4.... wests by 30 points...

              Prelim Final

The two teams are fairly evenly matched on paper. They have a win each against each other this season with Penno getting up in round 1 by 34 points and Wests by 22 in the 2nd round. Penno kept Wests to a single multiple goal kicker in the first round with Withers, Cole, Linsen, S.Kassem and McPherson adding only 2 goals between them. In the return game West had 4 multiple goal kickers without Withers, Cole or Kassem amongst them.

Wests have averaged almost 16 goals 12 this season and conceded only 10 goals 9 against. Penno are only a couple of points behind on averages and rely heavily on Spencer, Barratt and P & M Carey to kick multiple goals. Both teams have capable midfields, Wests probably have a more physical presence with Penno having a slight advantage in pace. Look for Penno to make a lot of rotations through their midfield and Wests to make sure they need every one of them. Both backlines have been very solid but like too run off at every opportunity providing a chance to kick goals against them on turnovers.

The way the two coaches lineup their teams, their match ups and restriction of key players will decide the outcome.

This game will be won or lost in the coaches box.

              Wests in a close contest.

Penno did play well last week but played a badly understrength crows outfit.

                West will win this battle.

However, ECE will go through undefeated.

                Well done all involved.

This will be my last post this year so enjoy summer, merry Xmas etc.

Been a fun 5 minutes each week stirring a few of you up.

Great - thanks Ash ... now everyone will think that I am you!!

I think Penno will win on the weekend - lack of big men will hurt Wests unfortunately.

North Shore to win magoos whilst the mighty Lions will be triumphant in the u/18s, whilst Wests will also go down in the challenge 18s.

Sydney Uni to win 1sts but lose to UTS in magoos on Saturday - whilst Nor West will make it back to back.

I see Wests scored only one goal for the second half again.
