    Poaching ?

It interests me to see in the past few weeks people talk about poaching ? .

Kanga , Hally and the alike who are going around talking to these Wests , Crows youngsters whatever have every right to do so , unless these players are contracted to a club which I imagine none arent there is nothing holding those players to that club and they have every right to go wherever they want and anyone can approach them . If a player is unhappy they will leave , players at clubs I used to play with however am now over the hill , players used to be offered money to go to the Powerhouses and yet knocked it back cos they loved the joint .

IF players dont like it they will leave and the clubs dont poach players , players agree to go ....it rests with the players ...i believe every player in SFL can talk and say YES to a club or No !!!

Kanga has every right to nab the West Boys and Hally has every right to nab the 5 young crows he has nabbed ( Go the Dockers ) ......

In conclusion I cant wait for the 2007 Season set to be a ripper !!!!!!!

Its a part of footy ... I know that if I was to be a coach of a side I would definitely call up past teammates & see what they were up to & whether they would be interested in coming across.
See me run a marathon again as a leprechaun?

My understanding is that contracts between clubs and players are not worth a pinch of salt in the eyes of the NSWAFL. You can sign a 3 year deal with a club but then sign a new registration form at another club and the league will honour the new rego form. It means signing players for more than one year is dodgy and open to dispute.

I had nothing but trouble from Campbelltown in 04,when trying to gain a clearance for Mick Kemp, who was contracted in 02.The amount of abuse i copped from the then-president was unbelievable, spoke to me with a holier-than-thou attitude-"you're from Div 1,you can wait" before he opened up with a string of obscenities usually heard on PayTV.Good thing was,his brother was a family friend, and i recieved an apology within days.So it probably depends on who you deal with.

Pekay, without knowing the details the contract the player had with Campbelltown was not worth the paper it was written on. As you would know when players ask to play elsewhere your club must give clearance before the league will sign it off. The player becomes a free agent only after a full year off from footy. In this case Campbelltown were well within their rights to refuse the clearance. You would have to approach the league and set up a conference to discuss the reasons why Campbelltown is holding the clearance back, eg for finances he owes the club, and the league may step in if they feel Campbelltown are being unreasonable. The league usually dont which means ultimately I think Campbelltown can still refuse if they want. An example where the league step in is if the player gets drafted by an AFL club - it is assumed the local club cannot hold them back!!! Most clubs just sign off clearances cause they dont have anything to gain but bad relations if they refuse them.

(Someone may like to correct my knowledge of this topic as it is a couple of years old and based on experiences, not the rule book)

Actually, Rooster, without any detail in fear of embarassing a club, I was offered a contract this year. A few years ago at Wests everyone signed a contract whether you played 2s or 3s. My knowledge extends from the fact my brother went through a bit on his way to being a premiership player at Campbelltown. When did you last win a premiership Rooster?
