The Best Player/s At Your Club-ever??

I'm sick to death of reading old posts, and i refuse to go back to work, as the cricket is about to start, so i'm starting a new thread. I went thru the 6 years the Jets have been around, and all the players who've come n go, so i thought i'd see who the best player/s have been at any time(preferably if you played with them as well)and where they came from, what they do now etc. Just a footy nerd thread really. For experience and game knowledge, its hard for me to go past Jason Powell. Jason played in the Hawkesbury days after a stint at Baulkham Hills during the 90s winning a few club goalkicking awards, then returned in 04 for a final year. Although he had cortesone shots before every game he still managed to kick about 40 odd, but his guidance on the field and professionalism off it were second to none. For pure mongrel, i'll say Nathan Beck. He was unlucky not to win SFA Goals in 03, being beaten by less than 8 goals after leading. Followed that year by winning back to back goalkicker in West Kimberley FA(one of the fastest leagues in WA)thats me done.

There you see?!?Thanks go to Kef and Tara for their input. Kef, i knew that as coming, you're a shameless self-promoter if ever there was. Brad Abbott is a definite, plus the rest, and you can give a guernsey to that young Lavery fella, he goes alright. Tara has included a who's who of names from the SWS camp, all of which featured in just about every Sydney footy record i have(and its well over a hundred)i didnt do Jason Powell any justice, forgetting to mention that he was on Essendons supp list a few years back, prior to joining Air Force. And i didnt mention Gerard Smits, triple B&F winner at Jets, one of the most natural athletes in ANY GRADE of Sydney Footy. Cmon, theres plenty of clubs out there with guns, give em a wrap(or yourself for that matter-its summer)

No worries Pekay, personally i think Lavery is too fat and too slow, but we are all entitled to our opinions.

Lions: Trev Burnett (although in 10 years time this title may be trf'd to Troy Bartlett)
              Goannas: Peter "hair Bear" Rickett

As for other clubs here are the ones that I reckon are standouts in their respective histories:

Campbelltown - Rod Podbury - Trev Burnett would probably be a clear second
              Saints - Tony Quinn
Manly - Jaret Hogarth - well over 1000 goals in a career with bung shoulders is a fair effort regardless of the quality of the opposition
Mac Uni - Phil "Cha Chi" Cianci
              Penno - Barnaby Howarth

Don't know the history of other clubs as there were obviously some brilliant players in the late 60s/early 70s at Wests and late 70s/early 80s at Easts.

I could name heaps from Cardiff over the last 10 years but to name drop on just a few:

Andrew Larkin- Came to Cardiff in 97 and took the club from the spoon to the GF. Probably the best player coach i've ever seen. Now Regional Manager- Hunter (AFL NSW/ACt)

David Flynn- Played for the RAMS in '96 and later topped up for both Carlton and the Swans Reserve Grade teams. Played in all 10 of the Hawks successive GF sides

Shawn Simpson- took to footy like a duck to water. Former soccer player who is now club captain. Had a brief stint at Penno in the early '00's as well as multiple Swans Reserves appearances.

Mick Ryan- Been at Cardiff for only 3 years but definately one of the best seen in this area for a quite a while. Getting on in years footy wise but can still jag goals from the boundary 45m out when kicking a waterlogged footy on a field under a foot of water (ahh memories of the '06 granny!!!)

Jason Coulloupas- OK he never played for Cardiff but I played Uni Games with him once and the guy is a gun!

Do you rate Bartlett that high??I cant comment, ive never seen him play unless he was running around in their 1st Div days. Huge wrap though, big shoes to fill. I believe Trevor Burnett should have something named after him in Sydney Footy, he's given that much and won even more. 3 Snows(91,01-02) a Phelan in 99 a handful of Premierships, a Rod Podbury Medal he's captained coached he's done it all,he deserves the honour. Maybe when he's a few years into retirement it might happen.

                    From Wests point of view:

Mick Partridge and Joe Cormack are my standouts

                    Ant O'Donghue
Barts and Willo spent time there too, big losses when they left
                    Matthew Shaw
Lee Urquhart, a consistant class performer over the years
                    Gambers in recent times

Trough - has something special and could be on a cusp

                    May have forgotten some

Manny is a gun - one I forgot. I knew him pretty well in his West days.

I believe he played/plays for Clarence in Tasi after leaving Wests 3/4/5 seasons or so ago.

From memory, he may have kicked 80 goals in a season and I'm pretty sure he was named at full-forward in West best team in 50 years.

He had a couple of injuries late in his time at Wests

We had the Sanson brothers play for us - Tim and Mark - they may still be playing in the Albury league with younger brother (s). Mark lived up to his name. Tim was a gun ruckman and all round good player/bloke.
                        Oh crikey!

Rafters for the Saints what about Clift or Tails. Thought they'd get a mention.

Tails was hard as nuts. If you got in his way at training he wouldnt flinch as he laid you out.

Older blokes who'd probably rate a mention from the Newtown days would be Chooks ol man Billy and Uncle Ray(Rat) Free.

Tara, Tails came to us fairly late in his career after being at Wests for a long time.

Should of mentioned Clifty myself, kicked over 100 two years in a row.

Mate I remember doing preseaon with Clift quite a few years ago at Stgeorge and still have vivid memories of his bullet like passes. I always made sure I took em one grab safe in the knowledge if I didnt the ball would remove my heard from its shoulders
