did anyone watch the first show on Wednesday night? Any thoughts/comments? Must admit that I forgot all about it

I think it will be interesting to look at. It was mainly just the news section and there was no preview - they preferred to run a review of last year with a Caroline Searcy voiceover.
Scoring Spida could turn out to be a masterstroke."It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

It was a great summary of the East Coast Eagles' season.....
Is Abers still involved in the production......? Conflict of interest anyone??Comment

The show looks like it's going to be interesting. Spider Everitt looks entertaining, and will no doubt attract a few more viewers to the show.
The show during the season will show magazine-style content - things like profiles, junior/Auskick demos etc. I wonder if they'll profile our online community here at RWO at some stage - that would be interesting....
Most of the show will be a highlights package from a game the previous weekend - for the preview show last night they did a quick highlights reel from last season.
No previews of the upcoming season, which was a bit disappointing. Not sure what game they'll be showing next week - they didn't say which game they'll be filming this weekend.

Well, if it is anything like the Phelan night, from the footage highlights anyone would assume east coast were the only club running around in the comp, its a shame, but do we expect anything different from a club with its head ups its own arse?Comment

Bomberland - if you were as dedicated as these people were, than maybe the bombers too would feature often! It's disappointing that these guys do a great job to get any coverage at all and we still have critics and snipers!!!
One error I did find in the summary of last year was it quoted Penno beating Wests in round 12 at Ern Holmes, which was incorrect. Wests 14.13 to Penno 11.9 and from memory I think big Sel kicked 4 or 5...
And for El Gato & Wests, I hope this will be the same story on SaturdayComment

Last time I said something negative about Scott that gutless Norris barred me for a fortnight.
Norris I am still waiting for a response to my PM's you pathetic twerp. At least have the courage to explain yourself. Ignoring something wont make it go away.Comment

Monty Burns2 and Bomberland.... I'm assuming you remember that the Eagles travelled through the 2006 home and away season undefeated, surely this is a fair enough reason for them to have a decent amount of exposure in the highlights of the premier division. I don't think you would see Carlton, Hawthorn or the Essendon figure too much in the AFL highlights packages from last season....just a thought.Comment

Gambler, I am assuming you remember that East Coast also lost the GF.
Not sure if you know but you get no prizes for coming second.
Good Luck to all teams this season.Comment

Gambler - your argument would be a good one if every game of each round was filmed last year and they chose to show East Coast Eagles' games because they were playing the best footy. However, as only 1 match was filmed each week, [and East Coast featured in about 8 of them] therein lies the massive flaw in your argument.
Wasn't the schedule set up early in the season? Wasn't the deal to allow each club to get equal coverage so that their sponsors could get at least a little bit of publicity for their coin?
Just a thought.Comment

I think I remember that the intial part of the season was based on giving each side close enough to equal coverage...from then on it was based on trying to predict the 'match of the round'. Given that the Eagles were undefeated I guess the powers that be thought that the ECE game would offer more potential highlights than a couple of lower placed teams slugging it out.

Thanks Monty 3 for pointing that out. Good point too!

Bomberland, when you are filming the highlights for the Phelan next year, please make sure to get equal coverage of all games across the league every week.Comment

There were several rounds last year when fixtures had to be changed with less than 24 hours notice, and that also had an effect - some games were changed because of this, and on one occasion they weren't able to get TV coverage to any games.
Another reason I suspect the Eagles had so many TV games was that in the second half of the season they played most of their games at Henson Park. Henson has excellent media facilities, so I'd expect there'd have been a bias to selecting games there because of that (and also to save the expense of hiring a cherry-picker for the commentary box).
Good luck to everyone for the season, and enjoy the games. For this week's RWO match report, I'll be doing the drive down to the Gong to see North Dalton's lights come on for the first time in the Wollongong v St George southern derby.

That was my recollection as well. But, even though I'm sure they'd have loved to give every team 4 H&A games; selecting a match of the round had various other things to be factored in. For example, games also would have had to fit in around Jacks' work, family & club commitments.
